Living in a capitalist society means I can buy communist era stuff!

Thats right folks. I've bought many former communist items over the years, some of my favorites are my CCCP hockey jersey, Soviet Naval ushanka (complete w/ officers crest pin), E. German officers hat, E. German officers overcoat and I also have a hammer & sickle CCCP t-shirt. I wear the t-shirt often. My friends and fellow NS comrades, what I find amusing is that my ideals are pure laissezfaire capitalism. I own more communist era shit that even Stalin would be jealous. Do you see the irony in that? After all communism is just a red herring!

I have to admit though that the ushanka came in quite handy when I was in Toronto this past December. It's very much like an oven on my head. One night I was told to go back to Russia by a drunken Canadian which made me laugh. A girl thought it was a 'beaver hat' and I assured her that it was 100% man-made materials straight from the factory in Belarus.

I highly recommend going to the Mod Club Theatre on saturdays if you find yourself in Toronto.

*If you would like to buy your own Soviet era products you can check out a site I've found useful over the years www.sovietski.com
No, I don't work for them.

Na zdorovia!
(Cheers!)

P.S. Don't hate...I was bored.

Nah, the greatest 'communist era' stuff you can buy in a capitalistic society are those Che Guevara t-shirts I see all the commies at my school wearing, yet little do they realize that by purchasing that shirt they've contributed to the capitalist system ;)

Too true. I do have a Lenin shirt that I bought from the CPA. Does that count as contributing to the capitalist system, comrade Kanabia?

Sure, but I guess we're screwed in that regard anyway, because the only way we can avoid it is by running around naked eating scraps out of bins. I don't expect everyone to be as enlightened as me, after all. *coughs up fish head*

Well, I can only hope that a communist party will have the good sense to plow the profits back into helping to overthrow the capitalist pigs. :(

Is the CPA still filled with authoritarians? Or have they softened up a little in recent years? They're so ineffectual that relatively minor groups seem to have a greater impact upon politics nowadays.

The local branch (where I grabbed the garment) seems okay, and the libertarians seem to be the most prominent faction, but they're a small group and I'm afraid that they don't have much nice to say about the upper power structure. As far as I can gather, the party isn't as bad it used to be, but could definitely do with a lot of improvement.

I was in an ex-Soviet republic last year and there was tonnes of Soviet era stuff on sail. There were the soviet flats in the shark (written Шark, I think) district. And towering walls with 5 pointed stars surrounding factories.

... Only I didn't dare take anything away as the country had restricted people taking any antique type stuff out of the country. Couple with this that there was a huge incident with the military and some peaceful protestors (which the government said weren't peaceful and said were incited by the west)... well I didn't really want to give the police any chance to try and cause trouble... especially as quite of a lot of them wielded Kalashnikovs.

I own an actual PLA Hat.

It's got the stamp in there where you would put your name, rank and so on in there, and a Chinese mate of mine said it was authentic.

I bought it from a dude in Xian - either he makes good copies, or the PLA makes some extra for tourists.

It sucks, I know. The CPA hasn't really been a credible socialist organisation for a while, unfortunately. Some of the local semi-autonomous branches seem to be fine enough, but I don't think their aspirations for reforming the organisation are achievable. They'd do better affiliating with each other apart from the CPA.

Still, they're a great source of Lenin paraphenalia, at least.

Pfft, clothes,helmets....why dont you buy decent Soviet era stuff like a T-55,you can get them for between £3500 - £8000.

Then you have something more interesting to pootle around in, unless you live in the US, as i think its illegal to drive tracked vehicles on public roads there.

Bah - a toy!

Hell, why not go all out and get yourself an aircraft carrier? (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060217/od_nm/china_carrier_dc_2)

A lucky bidder may come away from an auction in China with their very own Russian aircraft carrier -- albeit one converted into a floating theme park with a movie theater and restaurants.
...
The Minsk, a decades-old, decommissioned relic of the Soviet era, was first bought by a Chinese company for scrap metal in 1998 but then sold to an entertainment firm, which poured millions of dollars into turning the ship into a tourist attraction.

The carrier opened to the public in the southern boomtown of Shenzhen in September 2000 as the main draw of the military-themed Minsk Aircraft Carrier World amusement park.

A Chinese travel agency describes the theme park as "a harmonious combination of carrier appreciation, military recreation, typical seaside lifestyle in south China and military atmosphere."

The ship's attractions included torpedoes and a Russian dance troupe that performed folk dances, the agency says.

I don't know if they're throwing in the folk dancers, but it comes with a really nice ferris wheel!

I saw a red van with a Yellow star on and the blue initials KGB. We brits only use rocks. The russians are hanging their arse in our faces.

I hear that, most of my rifles are Commbloc ones. Cheap, historical, and fun to shoot.

You're only allowed to tote those around in parades here otherwise I'd have one. Plus they really fuck up asphalt. What I'd rather have is one of those US military dune buggies. They go for about $25,000. Fun!

For some reason, that almost makes me feel nostalgiac and sad for the communists.

Almost.

My next purchase is an AK-74 Spetsnaz. This will go well with my H&K G36C and my M4 SPC.
