..the real GTA.
GTA2 has just been (sometime recently) released for free by Rockstar Games for free on their Rockstar Classics "service."
For me, GTA2 is the GTA. The original GTA was kind of bland with lack of weapons, modes, and vehicles. GTA3 brought the game into 3D. Vice City was jsut an extension of GTA3 adding a few extra goodies. San Andreas is going to turn out to be the black-sheep of the GTA series: it tried to venture too much into non-GTA channels and created a large, pointless scandal in doing so. GTA2, however, added dozens of weapons and game modes we have come to know and love. If the next GTA is the 3D equivalent of GTA2 - a return to traditional run, gun, and jack a car gameplay without all of this sim shit and innovation, and the genre will be reborn.
And without further ado, I give you Grand Theft Auto 2:
