Just got done watching "The Miracle Planet" on The Science Channel. Several hours long, it has to be the best "history of earth" progam I have ever seen. If you get a chance to watch it, by all means do so.
The story begins with the formation of the earth and carries forward to the present, covering geological eons, multiple disasters, and the continuing survival and evolution of life. I highly recommend it.

The Science Channel? WTF? Stupid Yanks.
Knowing the Discovery Channel, we will either create a complete and total rip off with a guy as an accent doing the commentary so it sounds exotic, or air the special sometime next year.

LOL! Tsk! :p
Actually, the Science Channel was created by the same people who developed the Discovery Channel. As a matter of fact, as I recall the credits, the program was created under the ageis of Discovery Channel Canada. And the person who narrated had a most definite English accent. :D

Noted. Anything else?
Yes. It draws on multiple disciplines and covers the entire planet. It's definitely one of the best "natural history" movies/programs I have ever seen. :p

miracle planet: is this old or new?
I've seen a few of those uber-documentaries, but none recently.

Why can't we have a guy with a central African accent?

I've seen a lot of them too, but never this one before now. This movie should be required viewing in every school system in the world! That's just how great it was. Perhaps sometime soon they will have it for sale on DVD. If so, I fully intend to buy it.

Well, since it's about four hours long, I would estimate the price at somewhere around $50.00-$100.00.

Oooo, British how exotic. Maybe I should watch to chuckle at the accent and, as a side affect, learn something.
EDIT: Checked the Discovery Channel website. The Miracle Planet is only available on Discovery HD, there non-free channel:rolleyes:.

Nah, it can't be that good, they got their math all wrong.
They tried to cram all those eons of evidence into 7000 years, and that's obviously wrong. Carbon-dating, meh.
They didn't say almost ANYTHING about God and Jesus lovingly floating over the water and casting life upon the rock, wringing it from the dirt!

Accually, if you watch the first frame a lil more carefully, you do see that.

I think a really strong Windies accent would have been far cooler.
eg:
Wicked inna de kaos mi bredda. Wikked to the mass and you done know the urth have yooth and yooth a come up. A come up tha yooth come tha man, all I and I are one. Firs yooth it be call da dinosaur. Wikked man. Wikked to the mass.
Then the rock. The rock it come raining down from tha sky. Yes me brother, Sky the yes sir. Bam! It hit inna big blue sea. Yeah, and noboby can fool and nobody can live affer that. It come use we. We no just a come from no way and a come up ya so.
and so on.

Ah, yeah. The expurgated version makes A LOT MORE sense like that.
Thanks.
