You know, it's amazing, people like Fred Phelps, Pat Roberston, and others are what people think of when they think of Christians. However, these are the last people to be thought of as Christians. These people take the word of The Bible and twist it for their own purpose. The reason I am posting this because A. I watched the Laramine Project and I saw two great contrast from two denomination. I saw the father who was kind, compassionate, and actually talked with a lesbian and a homosexual about how violence against gay was wrong, and that calling them fags and dykes were wrong because they were "violent words". Then we have the likes of Fred Phelps and his "God Hates Fag". Great contrast there. There was also another Prostant preacher who said and I quote "I hope that as he (Matthew Shepard) was laying there, tied to the fence, that he reflected on his life, that he reflected God's message that the two boys (who assaulted him) brought to him, and I hope that he reflects on that." Wow... That is just wow... First off, I would like to say that I completely disagree with that statement. Anyone who uses violence, is not bringing God's message. Hell even if a person uses violence to bring God's message is not bringing God's message. I've always noticed how people like these, these so called preachers are actually relying more on the Old Testament than on the New one with the message of Jesus Christ. That was back in 1998. What is Freddy doing now? Why he's using his hate filled message at veterans funerals and he started a new website!

I honestly don't see how anyone could follow this man, or anyone who preach a message of hate instead of a message of love, compassion, understanding, and forgivness.

What I mean is yeah, Fred Phelps = a horrible person and should probably be removed from the planet, if for no better reason than to get rid of someone who does nothing important, but, the bigger question is: why do we, as the world, actually care what he says.


We all know Fred Phelps does not represent Christianity. We all know his message, his scripture, and his ideas are wrong. We all knoe he is of no import. But why do people still pay attention to him? All it does is increase his clout. Why don't we just start ignoring him and let him die in a nice little way so no one remembers who he was.

Seriously though, I don't know how you americans define freedom of speech, but here in Canada freedom of speech ends where threatening others to death, eternal damnation and suffering begins. This guy ought to be charged for hate crimes for all the comments he's repeatedly held towards pretty much every minority that exists.

Well, I'm not advocating it as a rule of thumb. Just that thinking of Phelps sometimes brings me to question whether or not it's always wrong.

What worries me is his lack of an agenda. i mean he has one but hes so upfront about it hes sabotaging himself. if he was more cunning he could be just as mental and maybe everyone in the world who has ever heard of him - and isnt related to him - wouldnt hate him. You have a point. However, we're talking about a sadistic man here. Plus, the more offensive he is, the more chance someone of his group gets hit. When one does, they sue whoever hit the person, thus getting cash to sustain their little church. So, there it is, his evil explained. He IS evil for the sake of it, yes, but there's also the lawsuit money...
