Wikipedia is getting close to its 1 millionth article! (2,000 to go!) This thread is dedicated to predictions of the exact date and time of the one millionth article and celebration of that event. :)

I see far more than that listed on the front page.

In this English version, started in 2001, we are currently working on 981,575 articles.
On wikipedia.org page, 980,000.

The best source of info for people who believe anything that they see. As with most new sources, I tend to take the info with a grain of salt.

Have you actually read wikipedia? It's no more or less accurate than any other website, really. It gets regularly checked for inaccuracy and vandalism, and articles which have not had their inaccuracy or neutrality fixed are labelled as such. If you don't believe me, try adding some "madness". See how long it lasts.

Wikipedia is mostly genuine, provides good pictures, cleans up articles pretty fast, allows a large pool of knowledge, and is god's own wesbite.

See how long it lasts.
Someone replace all Bush pictures on the Bush page with a chimp picture and time how long it lasts.

In the two hours since, I've posted this another 300 articles have gone up. That means in about 60.5 hours(2 days, 12 hours and 30 minutes, or 0715h on Wednesday wikipedia will have its one millionth article.
I think it might be time to keep a running count...981,970 articles or 18,030 to go.
My guess is we'll hit 990,000 by midnight or earlier...there's probably going to be a rush of articles as the million mark draws closer.

Oooh interesting point, I might have to revise my guess.
EDIT: Also, during the last few thousand and hundred there will be a mad rush to make the millionth article. I wonder if they can figure out who did it. They probably can.

Celestia is cool, though it does make you realise that the universe is just a lot of tiny spheres floating around in empty space not doing a whole lot. Heh. Maybe if we had eyes that picked up a wider range of EM radiation space would look cooler.
