Bobsleigh/Bobsled

Ahhh...bobsledding, my favorite winter Olympic sport since 2002(the only other Winter Games I've really seen...I just remember the word "Nagano"). I am depressed to see that there are no Jamaicans this year? Does anyone know what happened? I think they didn't qualify or something. Anyways, has anyone ever bobsledded? I would like to try it, but...well maybe I will be able to make a team/club for it. One question I can't seem to find the answer to: Are there wheels on the bottom or sleigh-tracks(don't know the name)? I feel like an idiot for not knowing.

You only like the Jamaican Bobsled team because of Cool Runnings, admit it!

No, actually I plan to rent that film. I have never seen and only heard about since I have researched the Olympics this past week or so. I know it has little relevance to the actual event. I don't even know really what happened other than that Jamaica surprised everyone. I don't even know if they won...I have to look that up. Also, please answer the other parts of my post.

I can't believe I'm actually qualified to answer a question about bob-sledding!
No, the sleds don't have wheels. They have runners. That's why they're called sleds, not, say, carts. :D
(Good thing you already mentioned the "idiot" part yourself... :p j/k)
The Jamaican team ran out of funding. They only showed up in two Winter Olympics and placed midway in the field on their first attempt (surprising everyone, including themselves).
And the Nagano Winter Olympic Games were in 1998, as I have very good reason to know ;) . 2002 was Salt Lake City.

Yeah, I went to the bobsleigh.com site and found out from the pictures. I swear I saw wheels on TV and then wikipedia compared the Jamaican pushcart derby to it. It didn't really seem logical for wheels, but I wasn't sure.

Oh, I thought they were too busy murdering each other *pokes statistics about rising Jamaican murder rate*.
I'm think of making a pushcart derby club sort of thing this summer. IT's too expensive to make a bobsled course, so riding down a road will have to do.
EDIT: I meant I remember the 2002 Games distinctly and only remember the word Nagano from 1998. In 2000, I only remember some swimmers...or maybe that was 2004.

The saucers? lol, that would be quite fun...*thinks of idea of building bobsled course and charging admission to use*

That'd be fun. Skeleton is the only winter sport I've really wanted to try.
I love sledding - and some of my runs (usually where I end up hurt) have led to my brother's labling me officially insane. ;)

Until yesterday, I thought skeleton was some British skiing thing. I had no idea it was basically tobogganing.

Lascelles Brown,a member of the original Jamacian Bobsled team, just got his Canadian citizenship less than two weeks ago. He teamed with Pierre Leuders in the 2 man bobsled to win silver just 24 hours ago. He is a part of the 4 man bobsled, so has a chance to take another medal as well. Pierre says without him as the brakeman he wuoldn't have had a chance for a medal, especially with the Germans cheating with their illegal runners.

Canadian competitor Lascelles Brown was born and raised in Jamaica, but applied for Canadian citizenship before the games began.
