Your passion in life.

Man in Black
18-02-2006, 06:31
What is your main passion in life, and how did your interest in it come about?

I have been thinking about this subject recently, and it has occurred to me that I don't have a single driving passion. My problem is that I'm interested in SO MANY things that I never seem to be able to dedicate enough time to one thing in particular.

A few of the things that interest me are

Science
Politics
Motorcycles
Muscle cars
Big Trucks
Computers
Weaponry Design
Animals
Music
Nature

And that is just the short list. I never seem to be able to commit to something and go with it for too long, because my other passions interfere.

Does anyone have any advice on how to choose which to pursue, because if I don't choose one, I fear I won't ever get anything substantial done in any of the fields.

My passion is neurosciences.

I've had a 30 year plan since I was about 5 years old and my plan is still working. I want to be a neurologist with a degree in neurosciences, and hopefully I'll accomplish that. Although, my bachelors is in Political Sciences because medical schools want well-rounded students and I love politics.

Go with the big trucks. The area isn't very crowded, you can see the continent, and if lucky, you can get a monster truck.

music, politics, computers/technology, photography, sunsets, maybe writing (when i don't have sodding writer's block for months on end), and a budding passion for architecture (which i've always been interested in but never 'passionate' about)

I was always a little envious of people who had one single passion they then proceed to devote their lives to.

I still don't know what my passion is. I'm interested in so many things, but only to a certain point. Drawing, photography, computers, paddling sports, woodworking, cooking, ... I like languages a lot, and travelling (though I'm not quite sure whether that isn't rather due to it allowing me to get away from wherever I don't want to be ;)), but until now this hasn't really helped me 'find my way'.

...that might soon change though, if they let me sign up for a translation degree at university. :)

4:Military and guns
5:Nature/Countryside

8:Music
9:Biology(in a learning sense)

I think the key is to kick yourself a lot & try to get others involved in your projects, so you can't just let things slide. That's what I do anyway.

Decide (in general terms) what you want out of life, and then look at your interests and determine which will lead you in that direction. If, for example, you believe that to be happy you'd need certains nations to be wiped off the map, then Politics and Weaponry Design stand out on that list.

If I'd been any good at Science at school, I would have done all in my power to become a professional Astronomer. But I was shit at both Science and Maths, so it was not to be.

Beyond Astronomy, my passions are Criminology (which I did study in the end), Politics, reading, writing, computing, cars, animals and rock music (well, ok, I'm only passionate about Queen. I just like others).

Music- I would feel incomplete if I didn't have music in my life. When I was three I became interested in this mini-organ that my grandparents had. I began plunking on the keys and burst out with "Louie Louie". I took lessons for a while, but I'm out of practice. I know how to play a few other instruments, but not as well. When I'm playing an instrument I feel peaceful.

Writing- My ultimate goal in life is to complete a novel. If I find the time. If my creative juices don't become completely stagnant. If somebody hasn't already beaten me to the concept before I've had a chance to complete the story. If, if, if...

Art- I'm not a great artist mostly because it requires patience, which I am in short supply of usually, but I still like to draw.

Italia was bella. The water off the ports of Riomaggiore was as wonderful as ever, and luckily any of the tourists that ventured there had made their way back home, and out of mine. I did get whacked on the shoulders a few times for my tatoos by some of the older Italian women, but it was worth it.

Have fun at the hospital.

My passion would be fantasy. I love it. Especially writing it and reading it. That would be closely followed by philosophy, religion (as an object of study) history and politics. Languages (and linguistics), cultures (all, yet especially Germanic and Japanese) and mythology all fascinate me in equal regard. Music (listening), martial arts and art (seeing and studying it) are also passions of mine. I guess I could say animals as well, since I love felines, snakes and spiders (though I wouldn't touch one :p). As for countries, I love the Nordic ones best, as well as South Africa and Japan.

Well my main passion in life is sports. My life revoles around sports, I write about sports, watch sports, listen to sports talk radio, goto sports forums (i was just at one). I'm pretty pathetic when it comes to a life outside of sports.

As for you my friend here's the pro's and cons of your ten passions:

1. Science - pro: learn cool stuff, your ussually gonna be the smartest guy in the room; con: chemistry and physicsis are hard as hell (biology is fairly easy.
2. Politics - pro: poloticians make the laws, you get a lot of prestigue; con: to be in polotics you have to be and asshole
3. Motorcycles - pro: in general it's just cool; con - might get on the bad side of a guy named Big Joe :upyours:
4. Muscle cars - pro: hey there muscle cars; con: canbe expensive
5. Big Trucks - pro: you can bun the little car over if it gets in you way; con: big tires are expensive
6. Computers - pros: can do some cool stuff with computers; con: means your a geek
7. Weaponry Design - pro: you get to help blow shit up:sniper:; con: that shit might be a person:mp5:
8. Animals - pro: chicks dig it :fluffle:; con: animals are dirty
9. Music - pro: some music is good; con:some music sucks
10. Nature- pro: agian chicks dig it:fluffle:; con: agian it's dirty

Poetry, for one thing. It's impossible to read the Wasteland without feeling a swell of passion. At least for me.

Acting, as well. I started acting because I wanted to be famous (shameful, I know), but I ended up falling in love with it.

Finally, Singing. I started taking lessons to further my musical theatre career, but I soon discovered the pure beauty of classical music. I sing every day, sometimes untill my throat is raw. And I'm actually good at it, too.

Ah, so you understand the sheer power behind the whack. I have a few inches on Sven, and eveytime they raise their hands I flinch. Especially when they are wearing an apron (which is 90% of the time) and there is a rolling pin in their front pocket.

Although, I've gotten good at avoiding it. But the tatoos get me whacked everytime they see them.

Physics: I used to hate it because of a stupid teacher who didn't want to tell me anymore then strictly needed but since I've got teachers that want to explain to me beyond what's strictly needed I love it.
Math: Same story as physics.
Musicology/Composing. I've had a certain amound of compositional skill since I was born, I could compose classical when I was eight years old and learned to work with keys and synthesizers later on, now I mostly make atmospheric music with some faint melodies somewhere.
Philosophy: I just love to question everything and think about everything.

I'm now in my fifth of six years of my prepairing scientific education and I want to study physics and philosphy at a university when I'm done with that. Conservatory and math was also recommended by some but I'll skip that.

Power, with my new passion I'm changing my look as well. I'm willing to step on or over anyone who becomes useless in my path. Those who stand against me will fall and those who support me will remain until I have no use for them. When I have all the power I can gain, maybe then will consider guarding the weak again.
