Cleric: $1 Million to Kill Cartoonist

By RIAZ KHAN, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 48 minutes ago

PESHAWAR, Pakistan - A Pakistani cleric announced Friday a $1 million bounty for killing a cartoonist who drew Prophet Muhammad, as thousands joined street protests and Denmark temporarily closed its embassy and advised its citizens to leave the country.

Police confined the former leader of an Islamic militant group to his home to prevent him from addressing supporters over the cartoons, amid fears he could incite violence, after riots this week killed five people.

"This is a unanimous decision by all imams (prayer leaders) of Islam that whoever insults the prophet deserves to be killed and whoever will take this insulting man to his end, will get this prize," Qureshi said.

Nah, just the crazy wackos that set the bounty. No matter how much they want to, they can't speak for the entire Muslim community.

So.. Does that mean my stick-man Muhammed (nope, no peace wishes at this time) was suicide?

Islamofascism.. Gotta love that shit.

I'd be far more inclined to believe that if it weren't for the throngs of angry, violent Muslims torching embassies and calling for the deaths of infidels.

No they don't. They make themselves look bad. Separate the person from the religion. The two are not the same.

Just how many is a "throng"? 200? 2,000? 5,000?

Let's say it's 10,000.

So what? 10,000 Muslim torchers vs. 1,499,990,000 Muslim non-torchers.

If you think these people make Islam look bad, then it's your fault for looking at the tiny drop in the bucket rather than the whole picture.

When the person is a leading figure in the religion and is claiming the actions in the name of, while all the turmoil is occuring, it's much harder to separate.

If a Catholic Bishop were calling for the death of the "Piss Christ" "artist" (to use the term loosely) amongst rioting and protesting Catholic followers, a similar statement could be made about them.

"Leading figure" is misleading. I guarantee you that very few Muslims have ever heard of this guy, much less give his words any weight. 90% of the time when some idiot Imam shoots off his mouth, it's coming from Pakistan. If you wiped out all of the Muslims in Pakistan, there'd still be nearly a billion and a half Muslims on the planet.

This guy is no "leading figure" in Islam. He's a putz with a gripe. Ignore him. We do.

Nah ... not really. No more than saying Christianity is a religion of pedophilia because of the actions of a few priests.

Keruvalia,

You have the patience of Job sometimes. The world would be a better place if all religious people (and forum posters) had your level of tolerance.

Cool, this would make a great basis for a tv game show.

Exactly. Christianity also has its radical sides, and we ignore them. Dude in Kansas damning Sweden to Hell about gay rights? Ignored. Even in Sweden.

Agreed, I don't know how many threads of a similar leaning I have read where Keruvalia has defended the masses of Islam with cool, unwielding determination... props

I thought that was hilarious. Phelps goes over there all gung-ho and ready to raise hell and what happens? Not a damn thing. Swedes everywhere yawned in boredom.

Merci, but it's not that I'm so morally superior, I just don't see the need to get all riled up over what amounts to nothing.

People tell me I'm supposed to get outraged and indignant over a handful of idiots hijacking Islam, but it's not the handful of idiots doing it. It's the millions of people who actually believe those idiots to be in any way representative of Islam that are hijacking my religion.

I speak my mind and do my best to speak the truth. I can only hope it helps.

As long as my lungs have breath and my fingers can type, I shall defend Islam passionately and without prejudice. I will not get angry. I will not publish silly cartoons to make my point. I will not call for murder or destruction.

If I can convince just one person that Islam is not a violent religion, then my goal has been met. Until, however, I have convinced everyone that Islam is a religion of peace, I will be ever present in threads of this type.

Swedes are quite skilled when it comes to yawing in boredom. :p

You might want to mention the silient protests by Muslims in protest against not only the cartoons, but the rioting as well. Very cultured. Very peaceful.

By they way, kudos to you, your patience, and humor as well.

The Danish Muslim community handled this situation extremely well. Very polite and through dialogue rather than mindless chaos. Yet nobody wants to look to them as an indicator of what Islam is all about ... they'd rather look to the suicide bombers for that.

Except for the 800'ish loons from the tiny 'islamic' community in the capital. Not that they haven't been peaceful in Denmark, they just haven't been very peaceful or peace-seeking outside the country.
I think it's fair to say they have as much to do with the situation as the newspaper.

Still, it's the representatives of a community of around 800 people. Hardly representative of the some ~200,000 Muslims in the country.

This is the flaw of the anti-Muslim thinkers, they think that all religions are like Catholicism. A bishop is a part of the hierarchy of a world-wide religion where most sects are actually interconnected and fall under the authority of one man - the pope. There is no possible comparison to Muslims. This amounts to some reverend at the local church calling for murder the media putting his crazy rantings on television to sell a couple more commercials.

Well, I have to say that you've earned quite a bit of respect in my book. I was already convinced that Islam is a peaceful religion when it's not being corrupted by kooks. I love reading your replies and I hope you never stop. These loons in no way represent Islam. I'd argue that you represent the general follower of Islam better than they ever will. Kudos.
