Have you changed someone's mind on NS?

Well, now that I have ideas as to what makes a successful thread, I am now curious about another matter. What with all the furious debates that continually take place on NS, how many of you have managed to have someones opinion change to your own position? Does it happen very often for you to have such a victory?

Don't know ... don't care. I'm actually reasonably sure almost nobody listens to me anyway. They're better off.

On occassions I have both convinced and been convinced, the latter usually occuring in areas where my knowledge is more limited. So it's a two-way street.

I just changed my mind about something today...
i used to think that people who believed in religion just didnt know what else to believe in.
now i just think its hopeless for humanity

Funny you should put it as such.
A few people have gotten the popcorn out on occasions where another poster and myself have gotten into it over *whatevah*, and there's a short conversation with Corneliu that i had that pretty much fits this thread to a T.
The thread was about supporting the troops ... not so long ago ...

I only remember "winning" a debate once... when I dug up picture proof of some rowdy Republican protesters! :P
Other than that, if I've "changed anyones mind" I don't know about it.
I know I've learned quite a bit of stuff around here... whether it's 'changed my mind' or strengthened my beliefs, it's fun to just bounce ideas around.
Sometimes it can be frustrating when a belief you hold to be true doesn't jive with someone else's ideals (i.e., I'll NEVER understand people who don't want public health care... Or those who ALWAYS stand behind their leader without question...) but most of the time I find it rewarding to discuss ideas. :)

In that stupid airplane on a conveyer belt thread I changed someones mind. They probably would have realized why they were wrong soon enough anyway however.

About politics and religion it is virtually impossible, I imagine.

I seriously doubt it.
Here's why
1)too quick to anger
2)too lazy to find supporting facts
3)ussually too drunk to make much sense
4)not patient enough
5)I hate stupid people
6)I don't care what any of you think, you guys are just fun to argue with

Honky in Black, where ya been? I quoted Corneliu earlier, for posterity. Maybe you've seen it.

Well, i'll vouch for at least 3 of your points.

I don't think so.

People don't tend to really agree...but sometimes they just sorta back off.

I learned and fully accepted the Lemon problem if you remember back. There have been a few people who have changed my mind on here and that was one of them. Alien Born accomplished it a couple of times, Eight Nunns Moore Road (only time I have ever seen him on) changed my mind on intellectual property rights (to be honest it wasn't set too strong to begin with), and Free Soviets has actually made me rethink alot of my ideas.

I don't know of anytime I have changed anyone else's minds, I tend to pick fights that I know I can't win.

I've been here the whole time. I've just been hiding behind you. And I would have thought the anger issue would have been the most prolific. *shrugs*

Incidentally, I now feel the need to come up with a nickname for you too now. I'll let ya know when I come up with one.

Fair enough!
I'm sure i'll earn it. Doesn't need to roll off the tongue so much, but it should look good in dif'rent fonts ... :D
EDIT: I gots no qualms with being called "Honky", but it would seem a little sycophantic at this point. *nods*. It would even go with Straughn really well ... as in, "Straughn Honky", or even better yet, "Honky Straughn"! ...but to a reader of your response, they'd probably think you tactless and straining. Probably best to let me inspire you some other way. *nods YET AGAIN*

As for anger ... i think that's why i felt i should include the junction with Corneliu (and there's a few other posts that follow that line after that on that thread). It's like ... why isn't Michael "Savage" Weiner dead after all the pissed-off flipouts he's had on the mic? Probably because he's a good actor. Hell, given his past, it probably is MOSTLY an act!!!

EDIT: Behind me? What, were you orbiting me or something?

Actually, upon review, my vote's going with Honky Straughn.
It invokes images of m'self sportin' a mullet and my slightly-stained wife-beater shirt while a huck giant casks of rhetoric to and fro, while i clench my buck teeth and stomp my hairy feet around, while intrepid posters like you and Deep "International Poster of Mystery" Kimchi try desperately to dodge my assault until you reach the top ... 'cept instead of winning the girl (guy, whatevah), you ... uhm, bring the thread to a semi-dignified death. And my absence. :D
*nods*

But whatever, make it a good one!
