I have a Dell Insprion 5150 laptop. Running Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2. The computer is almost 2 years old.

Randomly it turns itself off without any warning. When I turn in back on, there is no blue screen or any error message. It is hooked up to a surge protector and my speakers, which are connected to the same surge protector, do not shut off. My desk lamp also remains on.

I ran a virus and spyware scan, both showed nothing.

Any ideas about what is causing this and how to fix it?

maybe you have too many things hooked up to the surge protector and ur laptop isnt getting enough power
or you can reinstall XP but all your files will be lost so you should save them to a cd first.
but dont reinstall unless there is absolutly nothing you can do
also about how often does it turn off?

You may have insufficient RAM, or faulty RAM. Also, possibly an f'ed up OS. If you can't figure out what to do, I'd suggest reformatting.

Overheating could be a problem too, use it on a flat hard surface to make sure not to be covering the ventilation holes.
