So I'm completely out of touch. People are spelling words with numbers and strange characters. That's cool. But how do you pronounce it? I've seen pwned, which I understand to be, well, I understand what it means but can't really explain it. But how do you pronounced pwned? Is it like PWEND? Or some POING sound?

It is pronounced "IhaveabombIhaveabombAllahAckbar!", try screaming it aloud next time you are in an airport (even better if you are on a plane), as Air Marshall's just love such whimsical references.

Others pronounce it like "poned." Ryhmes with stoned. But I think it would sound better as "pawned."

its "owned" but with a "p" instead of an "o"

'owned' or 'powned'
I think it's pronounced, "Green-land-er", in a political setting, and
"Bru-a-wrong" if it's in a religious setting.

Personally I like "pawn" but "poon" sounds funnier.
As if the "w" were really an Ancient Greek omega.
It is meant to be pronounced "owned," but it is always spelled PWND.
"Pawned," is sometimes acceptable as is "poned." However, I have come across ignorant bufoons that think the term is pronounced "pooned," which is something entirely different.

Why'd you post two asertisks?
And you can pronounce it however you want.

Why'd you post two asertisks?
Yeah, pronouncing only one asterisk sound suffices ... two consecutive asterisks tends to gum up the works, as the german B sound for "ss" but if you used b you'd ... oh never mind.
What? I haven't posted anything in this thread. I don't know what you're talking about?

It is pronounced "pone". As for the wierd spellings like "5uxx0rz" or "73h" ore "pwnz3r", they are all part of a way to spell things amongst the hardcore gaming community. It is called "1337 5p33k" a.k.a, leet speak. It's short for elite. I have some good knowledge of this.
Oh, and "pwn" means "own". Just thought I'd add that.

I always pronounced it phonetically, i.e, "pawned." You can associate that with chess too - the utter humiliation of getting your queen taken by a pawn or something like that. Besides, 'poned' sounds stupid. :p
What is this pwned, n00b?

i pronounced it owned. why? because pwned is originally just a misspeling of owned. Sometimes I pronownece it Pwinned in my head though...

I pronounce it "pawned", like the chess piece. I hear people pronounce it like "poned" as in stoned, and "pwined" as in wind, but both of those sound stupid. :p

I tried that once, they shot me with a gun (http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/15/tasers-electrifying-new-xrep-shotgun-fired-projectile/), at point blank. It kinda hurt.

So? It's used delebrately, it's as much of word on the internet as owned is. If everytime it has ever been used is actually a typo, maybe that makes sense.
