..was apparently a man, a communist or an anarchist I persume, who was executed by Francoists is Spain, after the civil war. Google found nothing about him in English, neither did Wiki. From the few puny encyclopedias I have here I found nothing about him.

If anyone knows, please tell me: When was he executed? Why was he executed? Who was he?

Or, even better, post a link to somewhere I can read about this man who has caught my attention due the beautiful ballad "When they murdered Julian Grimau" I heard.

Thanks.

He was a member of the Communist Party and was executed as a political opponent by Franco.

He fought in the Spanish Civil war, but before hand was a detective, which help him reach an important position in the Communist party. He was responsible for rooting out supporters of Franco and bringing them to trial at "Chekas" (which have been called kangaroo courts but I'm not knowledgable enough on this subject).

:EDIT: just noticed you want stuff on his "execution" he was murdered in 1963 (?) by Franco thugs who threw him out of a window in Madrid, then killed him by firing squad.

BTW, what song are those lyrics from, I tried googling them but got nothing.

Question...do you speak any Spanish? Because I can direct you towards a tonne of information about him in Spanish. I KNEW I recognised the name...Violeta Parra mentions him in a song. If you REALLY REALLY need this information, and don't speak Spanish, I'll do some translations for you.

No, I don't speak Spanish. And to be honest, no, I don't REALLY-REALLY need the information. I'm just very interrested about SCW and the thirties in Iberian Peninsula, and would be very gratefull if you could let me know more about this man that seemingly held a some sort of a role in it.
But no, there is no desperate need.

And the song I mentioned is in Finnish, I just translated the name (Julian Grimau on murhattu). Though I guess it's originally Spanish, and therefore there is propably an English version of it also, I just don't know the name.

He was Spanish, not French.

Wait up, I'm translating the article on English wiki. Your prayers were answered.

Note: his name is actually Julián.

Great! Many thanks.
Just that... ummm... where did you pull that France from? Who has said anything about it?

That was my question also. I had begun the translation of the article in Wikipedia (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juli%C3%A1n_Grimau) as well, but I'll let someone with more energy do it:)
