I love Australia (well, not really, but still...)

Same as the "I love America/Canada" threads. Rate Australia based on its foreign relations, and other stuff.

Personally, as an Australian, I think it's pretty good. Freedom, but not too americanized. Only things that suck are the lack of population and lack of really cool stuff that isn't rivalled by anything else in the world.

Now, GIMME 20!

Being an Australian, I love the country I live in. Ignoring that every day in Melbourne is gambling getting a bullet in your head, Brisbane residents can't remember the 000 number, Sydney is the racist Nazi capital of the world, Adelaide's main tourist attraction is the "You are now leaving Adelaide" sign, Canberra is fueled on pot and who knows what the hell goes on in Perth, Darwin and Hobart, its a pretty cool country.

It's got its good sides, and it's got its bad sides.

Overall, I think Australia can be nice, but you need a decent amount of money to have a good time...my faimly doesn't, and so everyday life can suck quite a bit.

And the government is disgusting and worthy of a revolution or two.

Yeah...well...it's nice, but it's not the greatest.

In size, it's Russia.
In population, it's China.
In GDP, it's the States.
In Military Power, it's the States again.
In GDP per capita, it's Luxembourg.
In Foreign Relations (this is where things get a little iffy), I might pick Sweden.
In weather, I have to say that Australia offers a lot, but I don't like Brisbane's weather at all.
And as far as nice people are concerned, there are better places too. Although that's up to your luck in who you meet.

I love Australia, but don't particularly like the government (although my greatest contempt is reserved for the NSW State Government, though the Feds aren't far off).

I can assure you, I will almost certainly be voting against the Coalition at the next election. I don't forget...

Howard hasn't been the best option in any election he's run in. Latham may have been unstable, but I'd have taken a mildly honest lunatic over a slimy little toad any day. I just can't understand how he keeps getting in. He's lied to us again and again. It's sad that this AWB scandal didn't happen in an election year, because as it stands, the average idiot voter will have forgotten about it when the time comes to vote again. The Coalition government is rotten and the corruption goes right to the top.

The Greens main ambition may just be to act as a pain in the arse to the big boys, but in the illusion of democracy that is the two-party state, that's the most a third party can possibly hope to be. At least they're a leftist pain the arse.

Well, there's the usual great beaches (trust me, everywhere in Australia has great beaches - including some places with no access to water), and the Harbour Bridge is nice.

Taronga Park Zoo is one of the best in the world, and you can get there by hydrofoil ferry, which is a fun ride.

Sydney's also got some good museums and art galleries. It's not as known for them as Melbourne is, but they're there.

I watch a lot of stand up shows, and i'm generally disapointed with the Australian comics. They are either really racist or just not that funny. I do remeber a few exceptions of really good Australian stand ups - but they were a minority and weren't good enough to make up for the others.
