So, occasionally I actually notice that there are ad banners on websites.
Being as it is that I run a country on NS, I thought the game Democracy sounded like it might be interesting.
I dl'd the demo and tried it, and it was pretty fun.
I was just wondering if anyone here has bought it, and if they have any opinions about the full version?

The dl time was pretty short.
From what I saw in the demo, it's set up so you can play one of a variety of countries, and you get a couple of choices per turn (which is 3 months time) for what you want to put more or less spending towards.
So, as the UK (Only playable country in demo) the first time I played I worked on their pollution problem, since that was related to their starting problems.
The second time I played I went all military, no social spending, and had a LOT of unhappy people, but was making money to get out of debt. :P

i bought it a while back IIRC... about 6 months ago when it appeared in PC Format magazine. bought it, played it, pwned it and got bored of it in about 3 days :(
seriously - IIRC it was just too easy and playing as different countries wasn't that exciting

Not bad. I enjoyed the demo. I was able to completely ruin the UK in less than a year. It was awesome.
I won't be buying the full version. I'm satisfied.

I downloaded the game. It was fun, if you're into setting policy and adjusting taxes and such. However, it gets old really fast.
My beefs with this game;
- All the difficult decisions are really made in the first few terms in office. If you haven't eliminated your debt and solved the environmental problems, plus removed the issue of cheap imports by then, odds are you are already out.
- Other than an occasional outcry due to a fishing boat being sunk by pirates, military spending only affects votes from liberals or patriots. Since most countries seem to have an even number of liberals vs. conservatives, and patriots only make up a small portion of your electorate, you almost always end up cutting military spending in a big way. There's no threat of military invasion or anything along those lines (although I was thrown in a South American prison by Capitalists once.)
- Spending money on agricultural subsidies has this strange effect of eventually turning over 90% of your population into farmers. Keep the farming subsidies up, and everyone likes you.
- So, the basic strategy seems to be, tax everyone at rediculous levels to start, until your debt is negligable or non-existant, while cutting spending on things, rather than spending on things, that groups like/dislike. Once your debt is a non-issue, and everyone likes you, it's just about keeping your election promises each term (which if you keep alternating between cutting taxes, and increasing equality by raising income taxes (???),) you should stay in power forever.
Great, fun idea. Just not worth spending money on unless they expand the idea. My 2cents anyway.

That's disappointing, but sort of what I was afraid it would be like.
Other than different starting points and concerns, I figured you could basically make every country the same, and there wouldn't be THAT much variation in game play.
Pity.

quite... unless you enjoy fucking up countries (in which case you lose) it gets very same-y. and the countries aren't that different anyway. and it IS quite easy.
its basically like a micro-management NS country, but not actually that many controls/options
but this was a while back so i don't remember specifics. just that i really did get bored of it very quickly
