There's several things wrong with that:

A) It was not 'US' territory versus 'Soviet' territory. It was a combined Uk, French and US territory versus Soviet, so please get that straight.

B) West Germany constantly had a higher standard of living and personal freedoms than the DDR ever had under Soviet rule. Until the mid sixties thousands of East Germans fled to the Western zone, primarily in Berlin, to escape Soviet repression and execution. Even when the Berlin Wall was built, thousands more tried to escape; these hardly seem like the actions of people escaping from 'huge amounts of freedom and independence'. The Western-controlled parts of Germanhy wedre never perfect, but were far better in terms of economic, social and political freedoms than the Soviet territories were.

Well, considering its well documented that as the Russians approached Berlin, many many many Wehrmacht officers and soldiers were trying to make it towards the Allied lines and stay the sweet fuck away from the Soviets.....

There's your answer.

You go pillaging, mutilating, raping and cutting a swathe of destruction through the homeland of the Soviets... and they come roaring back... you bet your ass they'd want to get as far away from them as possible.

Too true. I remember reading a report from a Wehrmacht officer in which he stated that he and his men would fight to the last round to keep the advancing Soviet troops out of Berlin, but if British and American troops were to take his position on the way to Berlin he wouldn't fire a shot.

The Soviet's crushed Berlin and raped, pillaged and did all sorts of godawful things - read The Last Battle - Cornelius Ryan for an idea of what they did. When East Germany came under Soviet control, it was a harsh and oppressive regime. The OP's views are delusional.

I reckon this guy needs to shut the hell up. My grandmother fled thousands of kilometres from Allenstein in Eastern Prussia to Bavaria, from the Soviets to the Americans. Her sister didn't make it, she was raped many times by Soviet soldiers.
It's pretty damn insulting to people like her to tell them "Meh, quit complaining - the Soviets weren't so bad!"

Which makes absolutely no sense. Even "annexing" wouldn't imply that anyone is mistreated.

It would just imply that West Germany wouldn't get its own independent parliament and that Ludwig Erhard wouldn't get through his abolition of price controls. So the economy probably wouldn't have picked up, and people would have remained relatively poor, as was the case in East Germany.
