Has anyone ever wanted to be on the radio, either as a DJ or a talk show host?

I always thought about being a talk show host and talk about aviation and related stuff. I may do it someday, but as a hobby. So what about yall?

I actually thought about doing a radio show on the internet. I would build a studio in the basement of my home, get some webspace and do like a podcasting/streamlink thing.

It is so true. Once I was on the computer for 3 hours playing Civ 4 while MLBradio was on in the backgroudn when I realized, that one guy was talking by himself for the entire time. I cant find enough material to talk to myself about for four hours, even if you encompass baseball.

That why most shows have call ins and guest.

haha! a moment of enlightenment, eh? :p
I think I was just never much of an entertainer (though my friends tell me otherwise, which I find confusing), so I never cared too much for a job on Radio/TV.

I already am a DJ on my local public radio station, 2 hours every Friday night.
I go over a few of the subjects that i also post here, as well as a few other things. And a lot of music that tends not to get played much.
I've been accused of parroting Le Show from Harry Shearer, but my show PRE-EMPTS his show by two days. So nuts to people who accuse such. Besides, i'm in my 5th year of the show, and he's only been ran for one on our local network.
I'm also (ONE OF/IF NOT) the only guy(s) in my state who ever plays Tom Lehrer.

The guys on my local ESPN are like that. They can go an entire 5 minutes without so much as mentioning anything sports related.

Actually i think 4 out of THE 5 listeners thought it was funny as long as something funnier wasn't on cable ...

Nah. Being PUBLIC RADIO i would have to be serving a *different* function ... something important :D
I've done it for money though, at KSLD.
I worked for a d*ckhead named Dan Vern Shattuck. He liked Donovan so much he used it for his pro name - Dan Donovan.
He was *anything* but "Mello Yellow" ... he had about three or four significant problems, all of them centering around his ego. Also, he was very, very proud to have met Casey Kasem once. An auto'd pic ... although i'm sure Casey's met hundreds of other wack-job sycophant sociopaths, i'm sure.
We had fun together. I don't regret making him look like a fool in front of hundreds of listeners. Ah, good times.

I used to work for a radio station, I was the person that they would send out on "live remotes" so that the real D.J. didn't have to hang out at the fair or the car lot or whatever, I had a radio name and everything. I eventually got to be on by myself for like 2 hours at 4am, but that aspect of the job only lasted for about 3 months until they could hire someone else.

I have thought about going back into radio, but right now the only good places that open up are early morning slots (like midnight to 4am) and I think it would be unfair to my husband and kids if I took a job like that again.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I worked at a radio station that played music that I HATE.......but hey $15 an hour to hand out T-shirts and bumperstickers, and every 30 minutes or so get on the cell phone and say

"hey this is Kanga out at the state fair, we have lots of great stuff going on, if you are out here this evening stop by the PowerJam trailer for some free stuff"

it was worth the annoying rap music.........

Wow that is early. I'm just fasicnated with radio for some reason. I mean all forms of radio, from hand held, to the one in my cockpit (of my airplane) to the one that broadcast.

And hell yes I'd love to have a radio show. Kinda like a Dear Abby, except more hardcore. If anyone saw that movie with Dolly Parton - Straight talk , yes thats it, I'd be kinda like her but with smaller boobs and hair.

Well thanks to the internet, high speed connections, and technology, you now can with Stream linking/Podcast!

Hell I'm working on my own radio show. Will I get paid for it, probably not, but I always figured that I wouldn't get paid when it came to the aviation field, and it doesn't bother me.

I've been lucky enough to see a few cases of the other side ... ever see the 90's video for "Sweet Emotion" by Aerosmith? *shivers*
No reason ...

Argh. All i have is cassette tapes of it at the moment. And most of them are samples i took of other unaware DJ's from the station so i can confuse my listeners and laugh.
But i can give you a quick trot-through ...

I collate news and stuff over the week, from hither & tither ...
First run is the PSA's ... second is the famous people gaffes and stuff (unless it's particularly popular, then i tend to skip it) ... third run is the corporate quarterly earnings reports (since i deem it particularly important to point out how much they make, for public record) ... and the fourth & on is the heavy stuff. Mixed in between is the three or so new or not-recently-played (every weekend, you know!) song that's been bouncing through the cranium. As i said, i'm one of the only folk in the state who play Tom Lehrer, Ween, Front Line Assembly, Liquid Tension Experiment, Mr. Bungle, Machines Of Loving Grace, Jeff Buckley, In Strict Confidence, Weird Al and The Fifth Element soundtrack by Eric Serra all pretty much in one setting (example, of course).
I also have a handful of contributors as well, including Verdigroth, so i have the extreme success of playing new music EVERY SINGLE WEEK that isn't too much a digression from the intent of the show. The guy who had the show before me was my linguistics professor, and he set a pretty good mark for me, thankfully.

Adam Corolla and Dr. (whatever) are pretty funny too, but their angle is *entirely* different.

Someone else here had a thread about starting an internet radio show (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=468690) just the other day too.

Sounds like it would be a fun thing to do if you have the time, inclination, and bandwidth....

I was on small town radio for a few years. Lots of fun but not much $$. Radio is like professional sports. Those that make it to the big cities make good money but those in the minors make nothing. The major benfit is everyone knows you. A real ego trip.

One three seperate instances I have been close to hosting a radio program at local non-profit stations because I listen to 20th Century composition ("classical") and free jazz and they've wanted that program. But I chickened out each time because I'm certain my audience would know more than me and I'd look (sound) like an ass.

But I've wanted to. The one I'd really like to do is someone elses idea (ugh...)-I was coming down off of acid on the trip I decided I didn't like acid (just not my thing) and I tuned in some college radio station and the DJ was mixing in some experimental music into a spliced up episode of X-Minus One, a sci-fi radio drama from the 50s. It was just what the doctor ordered (though not enough to make me want to do acid again) and I loved it. I thought that format would be great, especially since no one would have to listen to my tin-ey voice trying to think of something to say.

Here is my full talk radio show idea. I want to see what yall think of it.

Here is what I basically want to do when I get a house (currently in college dorm). I am a private pilot who flies for fun. I love flying, and I love aviation. However I think that the aviation community gets a raw deal when it comes to media coverage. Espically during a coverage of an air accident. So what I want to do is start my own talk radio show where I would spend 2-3 hour talking about aviation, from currrent events, to expressing opinion on a certain topic in aviation, and hopefully having a guest on every once in a while. I would call it Just Plane Talk. This would be an internet radio show, but I don't want to be a guy whos sitting in his bedroom with a crappy computer microphone speaking through static. I want to do it up right, you know a small studio in my basement or extra room. The show would be podcasted/streamlinked from a paid website. This show would be done on my time, since I don't expect to be paid for it. Also, the fact that aviation is purely a hobby for me. The show will be broadcast live (trying to figure that part out) and the website will host an Windows Media as well as an Winamp verison of the show. Just Plane Talk will probably air just once a week, mainly because if I try to do it every night, I'm going to run out of stuff to talk about and fall in the "umm" trap. The show will allow call ins, however as host of the show I do reserve the rights to drop your call if I feel like it's going no where at all, or no where good.

So what do yall think?
