Well, to begin, i fence. For those of you who know, i fence saber. I qualified for the Junior Olympic Championships in Hartford, CT, on Friday 17 February. (qualified on a technicality, but still) I have gotten sniggers from other athletes whose sports Junior Olympics are shams (swimming, for instance).
Since it's olympic-mania-town-ville-city int the world, i was wondering:

what are your thoughts on any Junior Olympics?

what happens when 80% of fencers at the tournament qualify for DEs out of seeding pools and i don't? should i care?

The JOs are huge. It is a great experience. I went two years ago in Cleveland and it was shocking when I entered the convention center. I'm also going up this year. If your parents are going with you they probably will take your fencing more seriously after seeing the JOs. This is not a sham this is one of the two biggest tournaments, for teens, of the year. As to what to do if you don't get promoted. The very question is faulty. Fence one point at a time at all times and just have fun. If you do that it doesn't matter how you do (just don't piss off the refs). When you get eliminated (happens to everyone but one person) stay, shop for equipment (it's cheaper there), watch some really good fencing, and cheer on your friends and clubmates. If you don't have any with you talk to some people and become friends, it's not that hard. Good luck even though foil is supremely better.
