Hackett Becomes A Victim Of Political Intrigue. Protest!

As some of you may be aware, Iraq war veteran Paul Hackett was running for the Democratic nod for the upcoming election against Senator DeWine (R, Ohio). Hackett, however, has been victimized by Democratic politicians like Sen. Schumer, New York, who went out of his way to scuttle the Hackett campaign in favor of backing a "more seasoned politician" named Brown.

This infuriates me more than anything the Republicans have ever done, perhaps because I expected better from the "party of reform". But it is clear to me now that all of Washington is chock-full of wicked folk, both Republican and Democrat.

To any Democratic Party official who might be watching this website, I want to let you know this: You have offended me. You have wronged a man who appeared to have no other agenda than to make his country a better place....and as a voter, I will remember this. I do not like Senator DeWine's stance on many issues. But he has not offended me like you have just done by stabbing Mr. Hackett in the back. Consequently, if you expect to win with your "seasoned politician" (Brown), you will have to do so without my support or my vote. Congratulations...you have just shot yourselves in your own goddamn feet.

I urge fellow Democrats to write the Democratic National Committee and the Senate Democrats and protest this. And if you are an Ohioan Democrat, I urge you to refuse to support the Democratic candidate in the election this November. I am no friend of the Republican Party...I have supported the Democratic Party without fail since 2000. But I will not stand by and allow this wickedness to go unchallenged.

As a person who has primarily voted Dem, I can tell you I don't like it one bit.

I cannot explain it, but this single event has made me angrier than anything that has come before. Even George W. Bush's reelection did not outrage me like I have been by the Hackett event. This is Democratic Party bigwigs making my choice for me before I even get to the ballot box. Consequently, I am calling for a mutiny of Democratic voters in Ohio against the Party.

...so, nothing to do with late funnyman Buddy Hackett, then.

Pity.

Get over it. Hackett is an adult. He could have continued his campaign if he wanted, but he wanted the big boys backing and they decided not to give it.

They want to him to run for the House instead. So far, he refused.

If Hackett can't play grown up politics, he shouldn't have been in the ring to begin with.

Looking at the two candidates objectively, I preferred Brown--not because of the seasoning, but because he has a proven record as a progressive. Hackett was as successful as he was in that special election because he's more conservative, but he had to be to run in that district. This is a chance for a progressive candidate to pick up a seat with a very weak incumbent.

And I think that Hackett is being a little whiny when he complains about the people in Washington trying to advance their own--what did he expect? Congresspeople campaign and drum up financial support for each other all the time.

However, there have been rumors--and I emphasize the rumor part because I haven't read solid reporting on it anywhere and I'd rather not believe it--that someone in Ohio was trying to swiftboat Hackett about his service--accusations of defacing dead bodies after the siege of Fallujah. If that's true, then it's disgraceful and whoever did it ought to be erased from Democratic party politics.
