GOLDEN TOWNSHIP, Michigan - A man was shot and injured when his hunting partner mistook his elbow for a squirrel, authorities said.

Michigan State Police said George Arthur Sikkenga, 64, of Muskegon, Michigan was wounded Sunday morning in Golden Township, in Michigan's west-central Lower Peninsula.

Sikkenga was wearing camouflage clothing except for an orange hat, which he had covered with a hood after sitting down behind a tree, The Muskegon Chronicle reported.

His clothed elbow was all of him that was visible when his friend, Gregory Scott Wood approached from behind the tree and fired his weapon, which the Ludington Daily News described as a .17-caliber rifle.

Sikkenga was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.

Police were investigating the shooting.

Well first Cheney and now this. Now i know i'll probably get some of those anti-gun people screaming up a storm (hopefully not though). But I don't believe that when stupid people act stupid, stupid things result.

Anyone else share any hunting mishaps (besides Cheney obviously)

This gets a nice and gentle blue WTF??

I don't think there would be, if it wasn't for you mentioning it.

You see, "anti-gun people" don't have a problem with people hunting. Hunting is a popular pasttime (not that I like it particularly) all around the world, and it would be in Europe if hunters and farmers hadn't killed all the animals.

Anti-gun people have problems with people having guns in houses and on themselves for reasons of self-defence or out of the sheer fascination of the thing, not with people having a rifle to hunt pheasants in their holidays.

I think it's safe to say that more people die from gun-related deaths than hunting-related deaths, at least in the U.S. I don't think hunting should be outlawed but I'm against guns for "home defense".

BTW, who the hell shoots a squirell anyway?

That's why no-one hunts here!
