What to do?

I just(as in half an hour ago) got a cheque for 1000 euro from my aunt and uncle(officially my favourite relations by far) for my 18th birthday. Altogether I got 1200 euro. The obvious thing to do, as I saw it, was to come here and (a) boast and (b) get some suggestions on how to spend the money.

So, any ideas?

Put most of it in savings and then spend the rest on something you normally wouldnt buy for yourself. Live a little.

Sounds really boring I know, but if you're planning on going to university or college or the like, you should maybe put some of it into a savings account. Spend some and enjoy it, of course, but if you put say E900/1000 or so into the bank it could come in handy.

If you're not planning on that kind of thing, you could still do that and save it for a rainy day or potential spells of financial woes (hopefully won't happen, but sadly we can't predict the future). Or spend it on a holiday or towards a car :)

Happy birthday anyway!

I put my gifts into cash ISAs. Not sure where you live, but a fixed interest rate savings account of some description, with the ability to withdraw without a notice period, is an excellent idea.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: buy land. Then, if civilisation collapses, you'll be laughing (preferably from behind a large machine gun).

Don't spend it yet. Sit on it for a bit. No, seriously. Pile it into a pillow cover and just rest your backside on it for a couple of hours. Then, consider this...are you in debt right now? Pay off as much of it as you can, because you might as well burn that pillow under your ass with the interest you're pissing away in loans if you have them. Mad money be damned.

OR ignore all of this and go to Cuba.

I would put a percentage into savings, pay off some debt with some, and buy myself something that is normally a luxury or something that you have been wanting that wasn't "in the budget"

Ooh! Travel!

Pick somewhere nice to go and have a good time.
