Well, I'm a sophmore, and I recently owned the PSATs, I know because I get tons of college mail praising my ownage of th PSATs.

But, one of the college offers made me giggle.

Tulane University.

In New Orleans.

Cuz, you know, its still kind of a big puddle right now.

Have any of you high school folks gotten any funny college mail recently?

It's also the closest thing the south has to an Ivy League School. And they'll be recruiting hard over the next couple of years as they seek to regroup. You could do a lot worse than Tulane. And you could wind up in the same year as my daughter, who is also a sophomore, and who has them on her short list.

I have a friend down there who loves it...sadly lost everything (her car, computer, clothes, etc) in the flooding. She was visiting her boyfriends family out in California when the storm was coming, so never had a chance to get the stuff out of there.

Yep, right after I took my PSAT and got my scores back I've been getting mail like crazy and spammage from colleges I didn't even knew existed (Kalamazoo?)

(Eh, I got like a 160 score on my PSAT (messed up the math section, did super super good on the reading) and I get a buncha emails praising me like crazy from colleges, don't think too highly of what spam tells you)

My daughter was living in Bay St. Louis with her mom. She spent her 15th birthday salvaging her clothes and other personal effects. Fortunately, her mom's house survived. She moved down to Florida with me--just in time for Hurricane Wilma

ouch. Grandparents got hit dead on with that. My grandma said they didn't have to go to a hotel because they had a TV...they just wern't watching it (she failed to remember they were without power for 2 weeks....)

slightly more on topic, when I was doing the college search thing, I talked to a rep from University of Hawaii...asked him how the classes were, and his response, I swear on pain of death, was "We have good weather".

I walked away after that. And now, I'm snowed in.

I think I made the wrong choice;)
