Okay, there was this book I read a long time ago that I can't remember the name of or who wrote it. I do, however, remember the plot. It happened that this boy and his family, including his little sister went to live in this cabin in some woods that are being cut down. In this forest were these creatures, that I seem to remember being compared to mole rats... I think the creatures are trying to sabotage the people cutting down the woods, and as well they'll sometimes sedate a person and take a body part to replace something one of the creatures doesn't have, because they're all being born with deformities.

Has anyone read this book and knows what it's called, or knows somewhere I can go to ask about it? I fail at using search engines, and can rarely get what I want from them.

Were you in high school at the time, i.e were you supposed to read it for class? Or was it just a book you picked up randomly to read for fun? That might help a bit.

Sounds to me like 'My Neighbor Totoro' gone berserk :)

Picked it up for myself, before high school, too.
