Favorite Band?
So What If I Just Started Another Thread Nary 30 Minutes Ago? I Need Something To Do Until The Petition Results Come Out. Anyways, Just Tell Us What Your Favorite Bands Are. I Like Too Many Bands To Give A Definite Answer, But These Ones Can Definetly Contend:
Eels: Best Druggie Music I've Heard In A Long Time.
Modest Mouse: We Share A Bitterness For The World
Coldplay: Great Example Of British Finess
Nightwish: If You've Heard Them, You Know Why
Interpol: Great Music, Great Ideas, And The Guy's Voice Is As Unique As You Can Get
System Of A Down: Modest Mouse, But Louder
Death Cab For Cutie: Modest Mouse, But Softer
Evanesance: Kind Of Like Nightwish, But The Singer's Voice Is Higher Pitched, And Not As Dark
Weezer: Somewhat Of A Combo Of Eels And Modest Mouse

Ayreon (http://www.ayreon.com/home/index.php)
Could be a long list of bands here...
First off there's Biffy Clyro. Above everybody else. Then there's (in no order) Radiohead, Broken Social Scene, 65daysofstatic, Oceansize, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, The White Stripes, Weezer, Brand New, Foo Fighters, Gomez, Metallica, Pixies, Queens of the Stoneage, and Sigur Rós.
That took a while to write...there's a fair few bands I couldn't decide I would list them or not. Anyway, if there's any band you haven't heard of there then check them out. All good bands.
Good, I kept it short.

There's two versions (well, three, but let's not get ahead of ourselves)
There's the version on the Vertigo of Bliss, and there's one that came on their first EP.
The one on VoB is All The Way Down, prologue/chapter 1. It's incredible.
The on on Iname (the EP) is All The Way Down (Chapter 2). It's poor.
So why did I say there was three?
Chapter 2 has a second and much, much better version on their Joy.Discovery.Invention single 7". And it's a very, very good song.

Nightwish is decent, but their lyrics tend to be stupid and they tend to go on just 10 seconds to long with something.
My favorite groups are Rammstein, Battlefield Band, Apocalyptica, and the Electric Hellfire Club.
Technically Mia Doi Todd, Loreena McKennitt and Sharron Krauss are just singers, but they have insturmental accompaniement (Ok so, allegedly MDT's best stuff was done alone in a church after midnight, but she had a band once and then again later), so I'm including them anyway.
Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Led Zeppelin, Dead Kennedys, Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Monster Magnet, Tool, Black Sabbath, Sleep, Mudhoney, Butthole Surfers, Refused, The Pixies, The Velvet Underground, The Doors, Public Enemy, Sonic Youth, Soundgarden, the Smashing Pumpkins and Spiderbait.
That'll do.

Kanabia: Entirely correct. If I didn't dislike the guitars from RATM I'd put them on my list. Radiohead on the other hand...
Well, suffice to say I wonder how members of such good bands with underground roots could sell out so badly. :(

Ever heard of Inside Out? Zach De La Rocha's band before RATM. It's basically straight hardcore, you'd probably like it judging from your list.

Wow. I'm surprised no one has said The Eagles or Eric Clapton yet, though. Let's throw them on. Oh, and Fallout Boy (I am listening to them right now).
I'm glad someone said Pink Floyd, though. I think all the TV shows about the "top 100 albums of all time" are wrong: Dark Side of the Moon is probably the best-selling album of all time. I see people with Dark Side of the Moon posters and pants here on campus, and they're only twenty-ish!
I wonder if anyone will add, say, Frank Sinatra or Elvis Presley? I won't, but still...

Hmm... well, before my list... Nightwish is one of the most ridiculous bands I have ever heard. They try really, really hard to be over the top, and sometimes remake the same song (Wanderlust = Gothic Sanctuary), but regardless of how silly they are, i still like them.
So, the serious list... with some favorite songs...
Dir En Grey (ZAN, Cage, Berry)
Acid Bath (Jezebel, Pagean Love Song, New Death Sensation)
Choking Victim {In My Grave, 500 Channels, Suicide (A Better Way)}
X Japan (Art Of Life, Rusty Nail, Kurenai)
Simon And Garfunkel (For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her; Scarborough Fair/Canticle; The Sound Of Silence; Mrs. Robinson; Leaves That Are Green; April Come She Will; A Simple Desultory Philipic, Or How I Was Robert MacNamara'd Into Submission; Richard Cory)
(Simon And Garfunkel owns you.)
Weezer (No Other One, Say It Ain't So, Across The Sea)
Death (Misanthrope, Flesh And The Power It Holds, Crystal Mountain)
Idiot Pilot (Spark Plug, The Violent Tango, To Buy A Gun)
Acid Bath (Jezebel, Pagean Love Song, New Death Sensation)
Oooh, nice.

I'm ignoring for such things as Grateful Dead, and Steve Goodman, and John Prine, and Pink Floyd and all that 'cuz they're all the obvious choices, and go without saying.
I hear some people knocking on Nightwish. I have to defend Tuomas. I'm glad Tarja's gone, she brought undue popularity to the band and became a stuck up diva with that prick husband of hers. They're still an amazing band, and they get better every time they have a struggle. Sami leaves, and Tuomas writes Century Child, and Marco is far better anyway. They begin rehearsing their next album in June. I can't wait.
Hmmm...I'll do a top-ten list, I suppose.

nirvana
savage garden
goo goo dolls
the presidents of the usa
i knew i'd end up forgetting some
ps. dont be mean to emos - firstly, theyve got enough problems, and secondly, im soooo attracted to dark and moody *yum*
Nightwish: If You've Heard Them, You Know WhyThat's it right there :D
Pity they split up... :(
Evanescence: Kind Of Like Nightwish, But The Singer's Voice Is Higher Pitched, And Not As DarkOne of the few things I can listen to over and over again (especially when I'm depressed). Not as dark as Nightwish? I dunno, it certainly cuts deeper, in a way. (Italics altered)
Other bands on my favorite list:
Rammstein - Takes a while to get used to the lyrics, but it's great music
Die Ärzte - Best band in the world. Not my favorite, but they are the best ;)
Within Temptation - Like Nightwish, only not as dark (and Dutch instead of Finnish)
In Extremo - Former Medieval band, but they added some modern instruments
Lacuna Coil - I usually need to listen to some songs for a while before I enjoy them properly, but otherwise :)

-and all future bands i think of
The Beatles are my favorite band of all time.
However, close (if not equal to) The Beatles would be Five Iron Frenzy.
Up there on the list would also be The Impossibles, Brave Saint Saturn, Slowreader, The Velvet Underground, The Ataris, The Offspring, Less Than Jake (though what I've heard of their new album is TERRIBLE), Del tha Funkee Homosapien (and, of course, Deltron 3030 and Hieroglyphics), Blink-182, Air, Broken Social Scene, Zero 7, Handsome Boy Modelling School, Gorillaz, Starlight Mints, Flaming Lips, John Vanderslice, and Dynamite Hack.
I'm glad to see Queen and ELO mentioned - everyone forgets ELO and hates on Styx.
