How can anyone possibly like the simpsons, it is constantly repeated and the new ones are utter crap, they are not funny. There are much better things on such as Futurama and Family Guy!

There was a time when it wasn't, but I have no idea how bad it's got as I've not watched it for a while.
As the animation got better the script got worse.

I do. Its torturous to watch. The scripting produces groans of pain and boredom. Its like having someone really boring and annoying in the room desperately trying to be funny. It used to be amazing, very subversive and witty. Now its just smug vomituous mor middle american comedy. In a sense the simpson family has become like the waltons. Theyre no longer truly dysfunctional.

The golden era of the Simpsons is long past
As the animation gets better, the shows get worse
In recent seasons, I have seen many gags that are rehas from the golden era, and some are just stupid. But the show still retains some very good gags and jokes, all though theres clearly fewer of them.
I woundent say its crap tho.
Its gotten worse, but its still better that some of the other crap on TV

Frankly, programs on television are almost always "crap".
The last season shown in Britain was rather dull, and we're still several seasons behind the US. Of course, it doesn't help that all the political jokes are so dated by the time we see them - American Dad is far better in this regard, as we're only a year or so behind.

11-02-2006, 15:27
animation has gotten worse also in that its too garishly coloured, there is no tone depth or shade, its all just bright colours. I think the crappiness of the show can be apparently attributed to the new director they hired, he said he had never watched the show, hence the repitition, or the fact that the original writers left for futurama, not sure about the veracity of either contension

Simpsons is like the red army... It wins by sheer numbers. Of course, 1/10 of them are either boring or "Lisa episodes", but there's still so many good among them. Although the two first seasons were SO DULL AND HORRIBLY DRAWN!
Family Guy is Simpsons on steroids, cutting away all the morale and pouring in racial, sexual and plain nasty jokes. One of the main attractions about Simpsons is the throng of characters, something Family Guys don't have. Who can possibly say they hate Groundskeeper Willie or mr. Burns?

Up to about season 6 it was utter and unadulterated genius, but it then raised itelf to the power -1 and is now down in the depths of a hundredth of its former glory. Recent episodes, although occasioanly having the odd good one-liner, are crap.

It's followed a bell curve - it started off pretty lame (first two seasons or so) then rose to be sheer genius for the next three or four, and has now dropped down again. All in all no where near crap, but even so still nowhere near as good as Family Guy, and not quite as good as Futurama.
I don't really like most of the Futurama shows. There are some good ones, but Family Guy is so much better. And the last Simpson's show I saw was last years post-Superbowl show which was 15 minutes long and horrible.
Personally, this would be my list from best to worst:
Family Guy
Old Simpsons
Futurama
New Simpsons

Got to admit that the last 2 or so seasons The Simpsons has dropped in standards, but it must be hard for the writers 2 come up with new ideas as simpsons has been going 15 or more years now. How much more can one family do in their lifetime.
Don't know how people 'hate' the simpsons when it has humour on all levels and such a variety of characters.
I do think that they should call time on simpsons soon. To be honest I don't know if they already have. If you know could you possibly tell me and how many seasons there have already been?

[x] Hell yeah! It's so damn lame...
It was good for 6 seasons, but now it's just isnane-it isn't even trying to be realistic adn i think it's past it's sell-by date.
Once thing that is good is Malcom though.

Every cartoon gets old, since the characters are made so simple that after a few seasons, the viewers already know what the character is going to do.
For example, Homer + donuts. We already know what he does. No need to repeat the old joke.
Started badly, got better, fell off. Futurama is superior.
Well, I think it started out ok and at least entertaining, but it really has gone down hill and I lost interest along the way.

I still watch the Simpsons every Sunday... It's good, but not as good as it once was. And for the record Family Guy is one of the most annoying shows I've ever seen, though not quite as annoying as Gilmore Girls, Full House, American Idol, CSI... damn, I hate a lot of TV shows. I do like Futurama, but I haven't seen it much lately.

I think that cable tv has prevented people realizing how bad the simpsons has become. In England we just had endless repeats of the episodes from the early 90's which were excellent, then suddenly they started putting on new episodes and they were awful! but people with cable got the new episodes straight away, so didnt get the same sudden decline. It really is terrible now.

I like the simpsons but I think it puts out the wrong idea. It has all these negative stereotypes which I know are meant to be ironic but the average viewer from across the pond won't realise its ironic and think that that is actually what scottish/french/black people are like. Meh, I just think its in dangerous territory sometimes

I should also point out that I hate family guy and didnt much care for futurama but simpsons is funny despite its flaws
Saying that the Simpsons is repititive and Family Guy isn't is like puke telling poop it stinks.
Saying that the Simpsons is repititive and Family Guy isn't is like puke telling poop it stinks.
At least family guy is funny when it does it.
Simpson just go to another country or have another guest star and milk its viewers for all they're worth. Oh I forogt about those 18 recap episodes where just literally show old shows again. Or maybe Bart can runaway again, or Lisa can do some protesting again. Yeah! Those are fresh ideas.
Simpsons should have died a good while ago.

The Simpsons was excellent-good. Right around the trip to Tokyo it jumped the shark. It really isn't remarkable. Most long-running series had lost steam long before they are actually ended.

Yeah but the thing is the simpsons ran out of steam about 8 seasons ago ( i think they're on series 14 now) and now its just like trying to get blood out of a stone which has already been squeezed completely dry several times.
In short its really, really crap.... really.

The Simpsons wasn't always crap, it was one of the best shows on US television for many years. It doesn't go for 16-17 seasons for nothing.
Granted it really isn't what it used to be, but if it wasn't for the simpsons shows like family guy, futurama, etc would not exist today. So show at least a little respect fools! :D
Who here thinks that the Simpsons is utter complete, boring repetitive crap?
I never thought I'd meet another human being who felt this way.
Literally everyone I know loves the show, except me. I think it's mediocre at best.
I think I'm gonna hafto agree with what appears to be the majority here and say that it was a classic that long sense has died out.
I think it's about time they said goodbye to Springfield, just so it doesn't continue to disgrace its 90s glory days.
They should have done what mosthood comidys do-kill it'self after 6 or 7 seris. Usually comedys are bad 1st seris, and keep improving till the 4th, reach there ebst in the 5th and tail off badly then.

In it's prime The Simpsons was brilliant; consistently funny with a sharp sense of satire and social commentary. If you didn't enjoy the show from season 4 - 8, then it comes down to preference.
Today the Simpsons is by no means as great as it once was, but its crapness is exaggerated by the fans who watched it during the golden days.

I would have to say the best animated is this:
Old Simpsons
New half of South Park
Futurama
Old half of SP
New Simpsons
First 3 seasons of FG
New FG
Anyone who says Old Simpsons is an idiot who justs wants to be different. South Park is probably the best, it may be offensive, but it has moral lessons and political views, usually liberal but rational. Family Guy is just racist and copies the Simpsons, they try to make fun of the Simpsons, but it is stupid and they end up just copying the Simpsons when they do(Homer getting ran over by Stewies tryke is similar to when Marge does it to Homer in a Halloween episode). Futurama should of been brought back, too expensive. Though the worst animated show hased to be Drawn Together, that is a big crock of shit.

The only new Simpsons episode that I plan to watch is the one where the White Stripes do a cameo. After that, I don't care what happens to the show. It should have finished when it still had some credibility, because now its dragging down the older episodes.

I've been enjoying "Prison Break" lately because I think its rather interesting and thrilling, but all the women in my life tell me I'm watching it because the main character is "snygg". Which is to say, "hot". Anyhow, its right though: programs on the television are almost always "crap". ;)
