Japanese whaling sinks to a new low

Christ, they've given all pretence in trying to justify it now:

Whale meat 'made into dog food'

Japan has recently expanded its whaling programme
Meat from whales caught under Japan's "research" programme is so abundant that it is being sold as pet food

A company is selling meat on the web as "healthy and safe natural" dog food.
"A quiet whale meat boom is starting," says the website hakudai.com.
"The number of pet-owners who care about their animals' health are growing, recognising the nutritious value of whale meat," it adds.
The website describes whale meat as "organic" and fished "freshly out of the water".

Mark Simmonds, director of science at WDCS, said: "Whaling is a cruel activity and the fact that Japan is killing these amazing animals to produce dog food is shocking.
"We have heard many arguments from Japan over the years about why whaling is necessary to them but they have never stated that they needed to kill whales to feed their dogs."

I don't really like that. I don't agree with littering, and that's taking it to the extreme!

This is the one circumstance where Greenpeace would have my full support to mount a cannon on the front of Rainbow Warrior or whatever they call their boats and go collecting heads.

It is better than going out and getting yourself killed on the ocean because your a stupid fuck who has convinced yourself that you are harpoon proof.
As much as whales suck, however, I am against this measure. B-lot horror has taught me that if you start putting different meat into animal food, then those animals will start hunting the animal that this meat comes from, and the last thing the world needs is teams of german shepherds heading out into Japanese waters to start whaling.

I'm sure that all of Japan's whaling really is for research purposes. Did you ever think that maybe they're doing research into what a diet of whale meat does to domesticated pets?

Actually, I'd be very interested to see that.

We already know what will happen.

I think the US engaged in whaling to supply it's fast food industry in the 1980s.

Burger King Whaler Sandwich
The fish sandwich from Burger King. They still have it, but it's called the Big Fish now, probably due to the fact that Whales are endangered species. How politically correct of them!

I'd say it'd make them very fat domesticated pets. Whale meat by all accounts is pretty fatty.
Maybe that's what they want - to create a real-life Hello kitty. Fatten up a kitten on whale blubber til it's just a big furry blob.
The Japanese would go crazy for those things!

i dont see what is so damned special about whales used as petfood, we use all kinds of animals for that purpose allready: pigs, cattle, chicken, tuna, deer...

Surely there is something philisophically wrong with using a dead whale to protest against whale killing?

Hmm, Just say to japan "Do whatever the fuck you want in your own waters, but if anyone starts shooting whales in International waters, we will harpoon your whaling boats.

With the missiles not the pointy things"

Not going to happen, but it SHOULD.

Firstly as a keen fisherman I dont like them catching tuna either. I want to do that. (Dont shout hypocrite, Catch and Release.)

And if you manage to domesticate whales fair play to you, but I dont think you will. For one thing, where would you put the farm?
