This test will determine whether you are racist or not. When you get to the website, click on Demonstration, and then click on I wish to proceed.

Everyone is racist in one way or another. If they're not, they're lying.

A study found that by using this test, 88% of White people were biased against black people. So, not everyone, but most people. I'm assuming this goes for all races. However, we can overcome our biases to treat everyone with the respect they deserve.

But you can respect someone regardless of their race.

All the answers on this poll are racist.

There is a "My race isn't better" option.

I think this test is flawed in that you get use to the first arrangement, and then the second arrangement takes longer to deal with because you have to correct yourself so that you don't act as if it were still the first arrangement.

Anyone one you like, but two of them measure racism. One is called the Race Test, and the other is...I forget.

The main problem I have is that several of the questions are racist; I mean, if a white person is more qualified for the job, they deserve it, and if a black person is more qualified, they deserve it. Race should play no role in any kind of merit-based system. They make it sound like opposition to racally determined-only affirmative action is equal to racism.

You don't have to correct yourself. Just go with your gut. That's the whole point of this test.

You make a good point, but the primary function of this test is to determine an individual's bias when it comes to racism, not to make grand statements about a harmonous society.

You misunderstand. My gut tells me to act as if the old headings are still there the second time - I actually took a different test, and it told me I had a strong preference towards one side, which isn't true - I just had difficulty getting used to the things being the other way around.

I guess. However, it seems like the test measures more reflexes than it does racial preferences.

Yeah I had the same problem, or when they would have the same button being the answer for awhile you almost click it with out thinking and than get trown when a diferent response is needed.

These tests are full of crap. They told me I prefer Bush to Jefferson (hahahahahahahahahahahaha), that I have an automatic gender bias that science/engineering should be men (oh wait! I'm a female scientist/engineer) and that I'm racist.

Of course, that could have something to do with how quickly my mind associates one option with one side, so that I get lots of mistakes when they switch things around.

Edit: Meanwhile, I can't take the poll here because there are currently no human "races" to speak of. Obviously my race is better, since it's the only one in existence.

I'm white and the test said that I have a slight preference for dark skin. That could explain why I like asian women, but blows out the notion that everyone prefers their "race." Also, it has been established since the 1950's that race has no scientific basis and is entirely a social construct. So technically it would be impossible for me to racist since I do not believe in race.

Great test, though it only affirmed my conclusion that I have the handicap of strong implicit racism. This is ultimately a form of stupidity, since if I start assuming in a competetive situation that black man is necessarily stupid, and he isn't, I'm dead.

This test in my opinion can not accurately portray your true leanings. I did not score badly, I "slightly favor European Americans" according to the test. However I think my wrong answers were due to the fact that I did at least 50 in one orientation and then after about 10 "practice" ones in the other orientation they just set me off doing it in the exact opposite orientation. I think it was more I was just used to pressing one key to mean something instead of me actually favoring one over the other. That's just something to think about.

Same here. I am not racist in that I think whites are better than blacks, although I am more attracted to whites ( I am hardly attracted to blacks at all for that matter  ), and I suppose some inborn preference is there.

The test does seem slanted towards proving white people hate black people, what with the initial White/Good Black/Bad thing getting your fingers all ready, then the second time around making it Black/Good White/Bad and messing with your mind.

But it messes with your mind both ways, that's the point. And so they try to find whether there is some unconscious, automatic difference in what you associate with what.

I'm no psychologist, so I can't tell you whether that's fair though.

Absolutely. You get used to the first arrangement, and when it is switched up later, it's supposed to propose a preference for a race based on that, when it can be attributed simply to directional confusion.
Mikesburg
11-02-2006, 04:43
More specifically: If the test is always the same as the way it was presented to me, 'white' is initially associated with 'good', and 'black' with 'bad'. Changing it later on confuses the issue, making it more likely for you to answer 'incorrectly'. This is a highly biased test. If good was associated with Black at the beginning, you may end up having a different result upon completion of the test.
