Sexual Solicitations

pedophile predators on the net are all the rage on tv news shows. dateline nbc has an ongoing series of men being caught showing up at a "kid's" house for sex only to find stone phillips and the police there instead. youth councillors, rabbis, teachers, run-of-the-mill perverts, they pick up as many as can be persuaded to come to the house. these pathetic criminals dont even find it odd that a "kid" they talk to for 20 minutes online is willing to have them come to his house for sex.

turns out that if a kid is interested in having sex with an adult stranger in return for a sixpack of beer, he or she is only limited by the number of hours in a day to do so.

of course, unlike going outside your home, a pervert can only "get" you if you invite him into your life. quite different from getting grabbed at the mall by a stranger.

ive seen statistics that said (iirc) 4 out of 10 children have been solicited for sex online. i think that statistic is bullshit. unless they arent allowed to communicate online or they havent been online for more than a day, 100% of everyone has been solicited for sex online. mostly for "cyber sex" rather than meeting in real life. sometimes just some one saying vile things to you that you dont respond to. but really everyone has been talked nasty to. havent they?

so, since we have many minors on the site i want to ask you a few questions

have any of you NEVER had anyone talk nasty to you online?

have you ever struck up a relationship with someone who started the conversation with a crude sexual remark?

have any of you been tricked by an adult pretending to be someone your own age?

have you ever met up with someone from online for the purpose of having sex? (not meeting in a public place but meeting at, say, a hotel room where you intend to have sex with the person you are meeting)

do you have a close friend who could answer "yes" to the last 2 questions?

No across the board. I wonder where you get your information. Statistics are a load of crap anyway, usually.

no one has EVER talked dirty to you online?

do you go to chat sites? do you have a myspace page? do you have an instant messenger?

but really everyone has been talked nasty to. havent they? Not really. I've talked to quite a few people and sometimes they say things with sexual overtones, but I've never taken them seriously because they weren't meant seriously. If they were, I'd get them off the subject. I don't use the internets for that.

so, since we have many minors on the site i want to ask you a few questionsI'm 18, but have been on the internet for 12 years so I can probably answer these.

have any of you NEVER had anyone talk nasty to you online? The above, they might talk nasty but it doesn't mean anything contextually.

have you ever struck up a relationship with someone who started the conversation with a crude sexual remark? If it was generalized and funny, yes, though if it was directed at me personally, no.

have any of you been tricked by an adult pretending to be someone your own age? No. Never put myself into a situation where I could be tricked and it matter.

have you ever met up with someone from online for the purpose of having sex? (not meeting in a public place but meeting at, say, a hotel room where you intend to have sex with the person you are meeting) No.

do you have a close friend who could answer "yes" to the last 2 questions?Nope. I guess I fail at the internets? :p

EDIT: yes, I have AIM, yes, I talk on IRC, yes, I visit a lot of forums, no I don't have myspace because I think it sucks. It might help that I am a guy too. :D

Well, there's always Internet 2. I can't wait for a future in which we're all virtual large breasted lesbians who know kung-fu, giving each other presents, gambling, and playing the occasional game of volleyball. In a world like that, how can world peace be avoided!?

When I was a minor, I had people try to get me to cybersex all the freaking time. With one of the guys, I just minimized the window and let him go, popping it up occasionally to insert a word or two as if I was reading it. A girlfriend and I went back when he was done and read through it and laughed. =) Of course, that was back when I hung out in AOL chatrooms. These days, I don't get any solicitations, except for the occasional "come see my pictures" spam.

was that the one where one perp took off his clothes before entering the home?

that is why I don't answer any of those Personal NS Information Threads. You don't know how old I am, I dont know how old you are. and for the most part, I don't know your sex and I really don't. I've seen some forums where phone numbers are given out as well as addresses... weird.

most girls end up having to use gender neutral names. most of the "hotchick69"s on the net are male eh?

except for a few girls who enjoy getting the attention then ripping the perverts to shreds.

the problem i have with the dateline nbc thing is that while yes, there are many many perverts who would love to have sex with teens, the number of teens who are willing to have sex with an adult stranger is pretty low. most teens find the thought of sex with someone old enough to be their father quite disgusting. even if he does promise to bring a 6pack.

there are new articles all the time about girls who have met their online "sweetheart" in some sleazy hotel somewhere and ended up hurt or dead. so it happens. i just wonder who it happens TO.

I do believe that still contributes to the statistic Ashmoria was offering that "really everyone has been talked nasty to". She didn't specify everyone has been talked nasty to by strangers/predators, just in general.

And I was actually going to shoot you down, Ash, but then I realized that technically I have been spoken to in a dirty way online. And it was creepy. And I decided that day to swear off emo kids from Myspace who can't spell properly.

my sister used to go to a chat site while she was at work. one day while she was away from the computer attending to other duties she came back to find that she and someone named "romantic guy" had had an entire session of cyber sex. all while she was out of the room! her lack of repsonse didnt bother him a bit.

sure, but they aren't really talking about teens are they? most of the time they are looking for kids (10-12) who are already pretty open to being victimized, I saw a study somewhere (can't find it now) where most of the kids who agree to meet a person from the internet are already being abused by someone they know. I have seen kids online that are so starved for attention I bet they would agree to anything if they thought someone cared about them. I have had to contact thier parents to let them know what types of stuff they have on thier blogs (full names, addresses, what school they go to, when thier parents are away ect.) it's terrifying.

yeah it was. there are lots of men driven to do really stupid things by the desire to have sex with a kid. the more they catch the better eh?

i dont understand sites that ask you to give personal information to strangers. what are they THINKING?? create a nice online persona and stick with it. no need to tell personal details to people who cant even be bothered to as you themselves.

i can not imagine letting a 10-12 year old be "alone" on the net. they have no need for net privacy, no need for their own webpages of any type. its as crazy as those parents who drop their 11 year olds off at the mall saturday mornings and pick them up when it closes in the evening. *shudder*

There is a gigantic number of young people (guys and girls) simply looking to be abused. It isn't that hard to fuck up a minor enough where they will do almost anything for anyone who shows interest. Most of the people on NS (although many of you are obviously dipshits :p ) probably do not fall into this catagory. There are however a large (by large I mean way way more than you would like to think) group of young people who have been abused in various ways so that they become walking victims. Think about all the children you have come into contact with in your life, when you were young and now, and it starts to make sense. Preditors can recognize prey.

Take a look at the adults you meet that are absolutely worthless and detrimental to everyone they meet. Maybe you have moved past the point of noticing them but look around and they are there. These people have kids too.

have any of you NEVER had anyone talk nasty to you online?

Never? Er... well, yes, I've had people talk 'nasty' to me on-line. The full spectrum of nastiness from cybersex-solicitation to death threats.

have you ever struck up a relationship with someone who started the conversation with a crude sexual remark?

Not to the best of my knowledge, no. I can see very finite circumstances under which I would, however.

have any of you been tricked by an adult pretending to be someone your own age?

Not as far as I know.

have you ever met up with someone from online for the purpose of having sex? (not meeting in a public place but meeting at, say, a hotel room where you intend to have sex with the person you are meeting)

Nope and I never will. Well, at least not on a first date.

do you have a close friend who could answer "yes" to the last 2 questions?

Nope. Although I do know one person whose web romance went rather swimmingly. A web romance that (as far as I know) continues to the day. And, yes, they have had sex. If that counts, then yes.

you know I can't either, except it happens. What's worse is when I used to work at a toy store there were parents that would leave thier children as young as 6 years old at the toy store and go across the street to the movies. When I worked at an amusement park I saw the same thing, they would drop them off at opening and pick them up at closing, a season pass was cheaper than daycare I guess. Most of the parents that I have talked to and pointed out that thier kids were doing dangerous stuff online, had no clue that thier kids were online at all, or if they were they thought they were "doing homework" and that thier parental controls that kept porn off the computer were protecting them.
