Whats your favorite European city and why do you like it?

In the absence of Dublin, Florence or Milan, it would be Rome.

Paris, easily. If you've been there and liked it, then you know why.

Worldwide, I would have to say Montreal. Yes, I have a penchant for French.

Yeah, I was thinking of putting Dublin and Venice...but there are only 10 slots....*sigh* so many beautiful cities so little slots.

Anyway I put what I thought to be the most international of Europes cities in hopes that non Europeans could vote to.....This way makes more sense to me than putting Danzig, for example.

Not any more than people anywhere else, even if I must say I find Parisians quite hospitable. This rumour that they wouldn't be that seems to be quite prevalent in the US I think stems from the fact that the US tourists to Paris tend to be the ass holes, thus getting a kind of karmic reverberation.

Yes, but you are swedish, and speak good french. A lot of anglophones don't have the same experience. (Though they probably should try harder with the french speaking, even I make a stumbling effort, which usually helps things a lot).

I do prefer rural france to the cities though.

It's something I've heard non-Parisians say about them as well, and in my personal experience (not saying that they aren't nice once you get to know them) in the anonymity of the masses they tend to be quite selfish and egotistic.

of those in the poll, i've been to Paris, Rome and Prague

personal notes on each:

Paris -- Do not try to speak French if you aren't fluent... I pissed off myriad French people by messing up their language. They take it very seriously, or seem to anyway. If you're a native English speaker, just speak English.

The Champs-Elysees is awesome... mostly because there's a Ben & Jerry's shop on it. hehe (Arc du Triumph is awesome of course)

I hadn't realized that the Eiffel Tower was situated in the middle of a huge lawn (grass)... great for relaxing or picnicking.

----

Prague -- Nice people. Cobblestone streets -- bring sneakers! Those streets will tear up the soles of work shoes and make your feet very sore if they're not well cushioned. They serve the real Budweiser there. I bought a polish sausage for about a dollar in a plaza food stand... good value.

----

Rome -- Wonderful, wonderful architecture. Great food. Friendly people. Just don't breathe much... the pollution in the streets seemed really bad when i was there.

Well, personally, I would, just because I'm thinking you could make a killing with all the tourists.

But the fact is that the Holocaust memorial is not just something. It's a monument, just like the other things are, and therefore it's in good company in Central Berlin. I'm not saying that I like the design (I don't get modern art), but in terms of placement, I don't mind at all.

It would be useless to put cities like Bratislava...just for the sake of having a Slovakian city, dont you think?
