White House knew about the NO levees

Here's another one for you.

The Bush administration lying! Say it ain't so!

From the NYT (behind a subscription wall)

"White House Knew of Levee's Failure on Night of Storm"

"Congressional investigators have now learned that an eyewitness account of the flooding from a federal emergency official reached the Homeland Security Department's headquarters starting at 9:27 p.m. the day before, and the White House itself at midnight."

What next? Dick(head) Cheney telling Scooter Libby to leak classified info. Oh, wait, I already posted that one ;)

Actually, it's not behind a subscription wall, but it is behind a registration wall--different things, but the registration wall is a lot easier to get past.

Regardless, the story is a solid one-three pages long and enough to really piss me off, since I have friends still digging out of the shit down there. Unfortunately, it didn't surprise me, because the only thing that's been done competently in the last five years by the Bush administration is fucking up. They're masters at fucking up. They do it better than anyone I've ever seen.

Ok, but what was the White House meant to do? I assume was too late to carry out emergency repairs, and the evacuation of the city was already underway.

Not what the article was talking about, Lacadaemon, but thanks for playing.

The article isn't talking about the levees collapsing, though the problems with them apparently date back to some miscalculations done by the Corps of Engineers in 1990 (http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/frontpage/index.ssf?/base/news-4/1133336859287360.xml). The article is about the fact that, the White House claims to the contrary, they were informed about the levee breach the night it happened, not days later. The breach wasn't Bush's fault, nor was it his administration's fault. His shitty fucking response to it, however, most certainly was.

There's a third choice--apathetic, and it's easy to be apathetic when you live in a bubble and never have to see how the poorest people in the US live (if you can call it living). This is the favorite son of Barbara "why should I clutter my beautiful mind with that" Bush, after all. Is it any wonder he lacks empathy?

That's why I deleted it. I can't be bothered to read the agit prop anymore I'll admit. Essentially the infra-structure of this country is crumbling, especially on the east coast. Quibbling about little shit like this is pointless. It's only a matter of time before something much worse happens. And no-one gives a fuck.

But if it makes people feel good to do this kind of thing, then by all means, go ahead.

As if Bush's popularity didn't plummet enough after Katrina.
This should be the nails in his coffin.
I hope.

Where's the outrage over that?

You must've missed that outrage. That was awhile ago, actually. Y'know....when that news broke.

Kinda like this outrage comes when this news breaks.

Funny how that works.

a)it's his second term
b)he probably doesn't care.
c)if he did care, well, there are those who would continue to hate him if God deemed him the second coming of Christ.
d)He's kinda too busy with the stabilization of the new Iraq, dealing with intelligence reports, explaining why it's okay to tap phone calls from terrorists to US citizens, etc.
e)It seems the only people calling for impeachment are far-left nutjobs who love terrorists and Saddam and hate the US. I'm pretty sure he doesn't care a whole lot about their opinions.

okay, so E was a joke. hehe

rofl

that they allegedly knew that the levees were faulty... sounds pretty shady.

if the feds knew... probably the local and state officials knew as well.

Hmm. Last I heard, the Corps of Engineers and the contractors they hired to put in the levees and levee improvements in the first place didn't do it according to plan - the levees were nowhere near as strong as designed, nor strong enough to really stop much - fraud, if you like.

They were built before Bush took office. Once they sprang a leak, what did you expect Bush to do to stop the water from coming in? Start bailing?

DK, you should know that President Bush is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient!

If there was a problem with the levees, he certainly knew about it! Cripes, he knows if a sparrow falls to the ground... so if he says he didn't know about something, he's obviously lying!

Agreed.

They were built before Bush took office. That's not the nature of the thread, and you know it.

No, we expected him to roll up his sleeves for the photo-op.
Do you want to call me on that? :)

It disappeared about the time that it was proven to be demonstrably false. (http://mediamatters.org/items/200509120005) There's those liberal facts getting in the way of good bashing again.

Um, that article shows there weren't enough school buses. It does not show that the ones that were available were used, as they should have been. Nagin did not use the available buses to evacuate people and that is a FACT.
