<Insert type of music> sucks

What is it with people who can't understand that different people have different musical tastes? They seem to think that music is either good or bad. Music can be to your taste, or not so, but there's no objective good and bad.

I wanted to type more, but this is such a basic, easy-to-grasp concept that I don't know what else to say.

tastes... simple.

I can't stand rap, but my cousin does, so when he plays his tapes, I sit back and try to enjoy it.

I enjoy Filk, but can't see many people here enjoying it.

I think there is a differnce between enjoying music and musical quality and skill. I enjoy both Coldplay and John Williams, but I think John Williams is the more proficent musican. What I cant stand are those people who think taste is reletive and can say that 50 Cent is as great a musican as Motzart.

Yes, I hate <Insert type of music> too. I just can't understand why they give it airplay.

Genres of music don't suck. Particular artists do. Unfortunately, certain genres have a greater share of sucky artists than others, and are usually said to suck overall as a result.

To some degree yeah....

I can sit back and say that Metallica have in the past released some very influential albums and are quite skilled musicians. But I can also say that their music generally doesn't "do it" for me....and i'm generally a fan of metal.

But on the other hand, any music made with a formula designed to sell so many millions of copies sucks. Now, I may respect people's right to listen to...say, Britney Spears, but i'll also question their mental capacity for doing so. That's within my rights too. :p

There are also bands I might stylistically like, but they simply can't put a song together to save their arses. These are also examples of "bad" music.

Dream Theater.

hahaha :p

A lot of shitty black metal certainly counts too...I've lost count of the amount of times i've been listening to a metal programme on a local radio station and thought "Hey, that has a cool intro! Oooh, I like that riff...Aww, fuck. It's black metal with shitty vocals. Next!"

I would have to agree with this. I think there are some music genres, that by their very nature, churn out bad - insipid, stylistically poor, bereft of passion, inspiration or originality - music.

I think that most people understand that music taste is subjective. However the fact that all music ultimately comes down to taste is one of the reasons why it is so fun talking about music, especially with someone that has different tastes to you.

Music is good at generating emotions in many people (positive or negative, depending on the individual), which is why debates over music, in my experience, tend to emotionally charged rather then based on any rational criteria on what is "good."

Enya and whatever genre she is in, Reggaeton, Country music and any dance music (unless I am dancing) but to each his/her own. I used to hate rap but love it now. It is all about perspective and open mindedness. I may end up loving those genres I just named later in life.

I think the reason people hate certain genre's is heavily influenced by the fact that they hate the artists and/or the fans associated with it. If you hate hippies, you probably hate the Dead, if you hate Emo kids you likely hate Fall Out Boy or whoever they listen to. I think I still hate dance music to this day because of the obnoxious NJ Guido's who used to listen to it when I was a teen. I can see hating rap because of some of the major stars' attitudes and the annoying wiggers but it is a genre with a lot to say and can get your blood pumping just like a hard rocking song.
