The newbie
Hi there, I'm kinda new (about 20 mins.) to nation states, and have just discovered these forums. Hello to everyone, could someone please explain to me what goes on in the In-character forums?

Strange things. Terrifying things. Things that would make your hair curl. Or your toes curl. Or whatever's supposed to curl when you witness horrible events.
Actually, I dunno for sure....if you've ever done online-based RPs before, it's pretty much par for the course, I believe.
And welcome to NS.
Rping, you Rp (Role Play) your nation and develop it, theres a few main eras you can Rp in (Past Tech, Modern TEch, Post-Modern Tech and Future Tech) whioch refer to odvious time periods (the past, the modern era, just after the modern era, the far future.)
But don't take my word for it, have a look at the stickys in II and NS.

Slightly different from most text based RP's in that the game provides a basis for the character realism. For example, if, with a population of 5 million, you claimed you were sending 7 million troops, you would be shouted down due to mathamatical impossibility.

I don't go there. I'm told strange, evil things go on there. I stay in General forum where people are sane and polite.

Ah, my apologies. I was under the impression that such checks and balances, so to speak, were active in all sorts of online RP systems. My bad.

Yeah, right.
Basically Rping is about caracter development, both your with your nation and others. For instance Aust now has a history, emporers, caracters, civil service, infastrucre all mapped out.

Polite? They're obviously not doing it right.. I like my Rping rough and dirty!

RP is 1% sex, 17% angst, 48% nitrous oxide, and 47% general insanity.

True, true. I wish I had record of my days as a newbie, 'cause I'm sure, knowing me, I'm probably the annoying type that came in swinging.....which is why I never had any friends until about 1200 posts.....
But oh, the days of TRUE newbitude, for me.....three years ago, a gentle high school senior, simply needing information.....I was yet so timid. That's why I like the respectful ones who are willing to learn better than the ones who are like "Who are you to try to help me? F*CK off! I don't need you! I dont' need any of you!"

Well yeah, but aren't you personally obligated to say that? It invalidated the opinion, dear.
Simonist']Ah, my apologies. I was under the impression that such checks and balances, so to speak, were active in all sorts of online RP systems. My bad.
Well to some degree they are, but there are some text based RP's that don't have a program that they're based on, so somebody completely new could come in and say that they had an army of seven million troops.
Perhaps most was a hasty choice of words. My bad, and I apologize.

Ok, thanks for your insights everybody, I've decided that I'll throw myself in at the deep end of all this (which is quite an achievement, seeing as I can barely swim in RL).

The general forums are much nicer, just stay within their safe borders and you'll be alright.
