Here I come!

Well, I'm moving to Okinawa in June! (don't ask)

I'm just wondering if anyones been there, what it's like, and how's the weather. Also curious about how bad the Typhoons get. Maybe some fun stuff to do? I'll be there for at least 3 years, so lots of suggestions welcome!

Typhoons can be really nasty, and the typhoon season lasts quite a bit so I'd recomend getting some nice rain gear.

The food is great, or so I'm told, and there's lots of neat stuff to visit if you're into history and traditional culture.

If you're NOT military personell, STAY AWAY FROM THE BASES. Some of the protesters (while being polite, they're still Japanese after all), have been known to target any American looking gaijin, military or not.

Beware of military type bars. The girls in there are looking for a quick roll to say they've had a gaijin and nothing more (and most are not Japanese anyway).

What part of Okinawa? There's lots of little islands out there.

Is that as in 'paying you to go and don't come back' type of paying you to go?

Have you been a naughty boy again?

Anyway, have fun! Cool, I have someone to visit and sponge off when I go over there. hehehehe

Watch out for godzilla and wandering samurai?

To be honest, I've never been but have always wanted to go. Lucky you!

Despite what you've seen in 'Kill Bill', they don't let you walk around with a sword. :p

Anyway, I'm just going to assume that you're going there to kill someone. Unless I know what someone does for a living, I just assume hitman.

I don't really have anything productive to add, other then to remind you that, while in an asian country, one should never stab a politician in the eye with a hat pin. For some reason, most asianse are a bit upset by that (I think it might just be a cultural thing).

How about a toothpick, or a ballpoint pen? Not that I AM a hitman, but if I WERE a hitman, would a toothpick be ok? Pen? OOhhhh I know, how about chopsticks?

Ah, then at which case you'll have the US Air Force to back you up. Us lone travlers aren't nearly as lucky. ;)

Actually, from what I've heard, the people there are really nice, but you have to make the effort to get off of the base to find this out, or any real Japanese culture for that matter. US military tends to bring America with it when it goes somewhere (Not saying that's a BAD thing, just that if you're looking to experiance Japanese culture, you're not going to get it at the base).

Um... is this a bad thing?
Well, if you're looking for a relationship that'll last longer than a week...

But if memory serves, the Man in question is happily married so... :D

As expected, it has some differences from standard Japanese...
so just knowing standard Japanese won't help that much.

Anyway, have fun :D
