Interesting, where the article says "For most of human history, religion and bigotry have been two sides of the same coin, and it still shows."
That said, I'm not onboard with burning down a building because of a cartoon you don't like.
Is the thing on Rushdie still in effect? Are there people still calling for his death?

Seriously? There's a shelf-life on a religious deathwarrant?

No, it's still in effect. The only difference is that in 199something, the Iranian government retracted its $6million bounty for his life. Several foundations are still offering millions for his death though.
I feel most sorry for the japanese translator and the norweigen publisher.

Shite, there's a hit on a translator? Why not have the typesetter clipped, too...
Jesus, Nicky Scarfo was more careful with who he put paper down on...

Actually they got the translator. Stabbed him to death, that's what I was refering to. And the thing of it was, he was just some japanese dude, he probably didn't really even understand the implications of what he was translating outside of a technical exercise; well insofar as the blasphemy side &c. was concerned. I mean, I doubt he was an islamic scholar or anything.
It's possible the typesetters are covered by the fatwah too, depending upon how you interperate publish.

Those were the Puritans. Baptists, thankfully, are a little less violent.

You want to piss off religious people, claim you're god. They can't prove you wrong because all the (lack of) evidence for/against god applies equally to you using their methods of non-logic.

I think its fair to say that the underlying principal of most religions is non violence, goodwill, sharing and caring. Sure, there probably isnt a god of any type, its scientifically impossibe. Basically, religion only becomes a problem when it conflicts with another religion.

"Basically, religion only becomes a problem when it conflicts with another religion."
Or when one has to live in a society with or near people who are religous. For example, imagine one wants to print comics depicting a religous leader, or one needs to obtain an abortion for their teenage daughter who was molested by a religous leader. Or, imagine one wants to stop global warming - the result of admitting it even exists proves creationism and the impending armegeddon can not exist.
Religion makes the world a very dangerous place for everyone. It places millions of people with assinine ideas in positions of access to government, resources etc. It requires people to defy logic and reason and encourages the overpopulation of their individual religous group hastening of destruction of this planet to bring on their own salvation.
That said, I worship the only true god. http://venganza.org
