Rules are simple
DO NOT PICK THE NATION YOU LIVE IN

If I allowed you to pick your own nation, we would have all Americans picking America due to ignorance(I guarantee Americans will probably still vote US)

Ok go have fun, have some discussion too. Don't just pick any nation, please state why.

You, sir (I think) just made a HUGE generalization, that is also wrong. Not all americans are ignorant, and not all of them want to stay here. I for one would move to Canada or the UK. I tend to politically like Canada better than the US, as well as how quiet it seems to be. I like a lot of people from the UK. I have hardly met a brit I didn't like.

EDIT: My best choice, though is not on the list. I would, if I could, move to Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles.

Canada!
I have yet to meet a Canadian I didn't like, and particularly in the West the nature there looks beautiful.

I wouldn't take Israel because in every picture I have seen so far it looks warm and dry and dusty. Plus there's lots of religious fanatics, and with my views on the whole Palestine issue, they probably wouldn't like me much. And I don't actually know how easy it is for a non-Jew to get a permanent residency or citizenship.

Approximately 1 million Muslims are Israeli citizens. Although, it is relatively hard to get permanent residency if you are not Jewish, though Jews need not apply for that they just apply for citizenship right away.

Yes. How dare people actually enjoy where they live. How dare people have a little pride in their home. No one should ever be happy with their current situation. Don't people realize that there is always somewhere better to live, even if you live in the country that everyone else ought to want to live in.

I'm from Massachusetts and I still consider it the best place in the world to live. If that makes me ignorant, there you are.

WTF, we beat the Frogs, it should be Britain Vs France/Spain, we should be proud of the best naval battle ever fought!). Just simply flying the Union Jack is now racist because we live in Multi-cultural society, i mean FFS, i don't know of any ethnic people that object to the flying of the Union Jack. Damn Political Correctness brigade...i would like to know who they refer to when they say "it is offensive to Muslims..." which Muslims...Xmas is offensive to Muslims so we have to call it Winter Festival, i would like to hear a Muslim say that Xmas is offensive to them. *sigh*

Union Flag, not Union Jack. It's only called the Jack when it's flow from the Jackstaff of Her Majesty's Ships and Vessels.

Likewise, the US has a flag called the Union Jack, also flown from the Jackstaff. Sensibly however it looks different. Linky on US flag thingys (http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeohzt4/Seaflags/ensign/Ensign.html#jack). However, to continue the tradition of being confusing, the US ensign is the same as the national flag, unlike the UK, which has a different design.

Came down to a coin toss between Japan and Switzerland. Japan won.

Let's see, the major merits for both:

+Insanely safe.
+Unlikely to go to war... ever.
+Polite locals.
+Mountains. I live in Montana. If I'm gonna move somewhere else, it better damn well have Mountains. Can't stand this flat horizon shit that Minnesota has going on. And I don't mean those little pussy hills that they have out East.

Major merits for Japan:

+I've had an interest in Japanese history for a while now. What better way to learn about Japanese history than from Japanese professors of Japanese History in Japan?
+Airsoft there is probably on some whole other level. That and I could walk around town from game to home and vice versa with out the neighbors thinking that I owned an NATO weapon purchased illegally.

Major drawbacks for Japan:

-REALLY fuckin' wierd country.
-Can't exactly go to Okinawa on weekends, like all the cool Japanese folk can. (Something about me being caucasian and the Okinawans not being exactly happy with a couple bases we have there....)
-Can't exactly visit neighboring countries at will, especially knowing only Japanese. Chinese, I could get away with. But I'd be lucky to get home at the end of the day speaking Japanese....
-They don't know what the hell a steak is, let alone how to properly prepare bison. That and there's no hunting, so good-bye, healthy, lean game meats....

Major merits for Switzerland:

+I gettan assault rifle, WOOO! Well, if I were a Swiss citizen, that is.
+Cheap ammo. Another big WOOO!
+Swiss banks. Need I say more? They're just inherently cool.
+I can get away with speaking English... just have to sew a Canadian flag somewhere conspicuous....
+Can go damn near anywhere I want to, by rail! That there is how the West was won!

Major drawbacks for Switzerland:

-I'm a Yank. In Europe. Yup, I'm gonna be lucky if no one tries to blame Bush's fuck ups on me....
-Airsoft sucks. Airsoft pretty much sucks in most of Europe. Pretty good in Britain, but everywhere else... eh. Especially Germany. Blegh. Not to mention the fact that airsoft in the UK may be in need of a mortician if things continue the way they are.
-Jobs. Where are they? What would I do in Europe?

As a Britisher I voted Canada. Seems to have good scenery, loads of space, good natural resources, good history etc. etc. Wouldn't even have to change Monarchs. Coincidentally, my mum has a Canadian pen friend and every Christmas she sends presents with a Canadian theme; books, CD's, calendars etc. Of late though the presents have been becoming more overtly Canadian, sew-on badges of the Canadian flag etc. so one of these Christmasses she'll probably send us application for naturalisation forms or something.
