McCain spanks Obama!

This letter made my day. I have a lot of respect for McCain, and thought there might be something good in Obama, but it looks like Obama is just a hack who wants to make a name for himself.

In all honesty, without seeing Obama's letter to McCain, it would be difficult to tell whether Obama has been "disengenuous"?

Maybe you could produce a copy of Obama's letter to McCain and that might balance the equation?

It is difficult to debate one sided issues?

Obama has the full exchange available on his site:

Frankly, the one who winds up looking like a posturing partisan hack is NOT Mr Obama.

Sorry, I've read both sides, and I agree with McCain, largely because he has a long tradition and reputation for not being an asshole.

I've heard Obama's obsequiousness before.

McCain sounds like a senior hack browbeating someone, a little like Ted Kennedy. I have often wondered if the image of a rogue McCain is a little too good to be true, especially after he bent over for Bush in 2000.

Well, it would be rather interesting to hear what the rest of the people at that meeting had to say about it.... because without that it's just a "he -said - he said" thing.

And I used to respect McCain way more than I do now - his regulary sycophancy to the Oval Office is rather nauseating. He didn't even raise a peep after GW totally eviscerated the ammendment on torture that he had fought so hard to get passed.

Who knew that the man who bent over and took it raw for the Bush Administration after being totally humiliated by them in 2000 could be such a bitch? I love when people write like McCain did in that letter, with all that passive-aggressive bullshit.

Fuck McCain. He sold his soul a long time ago for one more shot at the Presidency. He was a man of honor once, but now he has no business accusing anyone of being partisan or disingenuous.

I dunno, I feel like McCain showed his arse on this one. Obama isn't my favorite person, but I appreciated the way he refused to be McCain's monkey...plus, McCain has been an utter disgrace lately. His "joke" about Chelsea Clinton was beyond disgusting, and it cost him my respect and my support.

After reading through the initial letter, I fail to see how Obama was being disingenuous. Obama's letter, formal and quite clear, lacked deception.

Obama is quite justified in his curiousity as to why McCain is acting the way he is....

And the fact McCain release this letter to the public says.....

Sorry but when it all comes down to issues, McCain is as much a hack as Obama.

The fact you insult him says you fear him in the future.

So he is not a public asshole. He is a suckup though. When push comes to shove he will tow the republican party line.

Hm, a right-wing supporter supports a Republican kiss-ass over an up-and-coming Democrat. My surprise is palpatable.

Eh?

I missed that one. What's the story on that?
McCain found this funny enough to recite at a Republican Senate fund-raiser:

"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?
Because her father is Janet Reno."

It really tells a lot about him, in just those two lines. He insults a girl for not fitting his opinion of attractiveness. He insults her parents by making a crude joke about her paternity. He includes a jab at lesbianism, and plays to the pathetic attitudes about Hillary Clinton's sexual orientation. And he continues one of the most depressing and disgusting trends of our culture, by insulting women who dare to have positions of power without pursuing society's image of femininity.

I once used to say that I felt McCain was a good guy, even if I didn't always agree with him. I'll be the first to admit that I've been had...McCain is a waste.

Yeah, I love how McCain the gentleman insulted a young woman in front of the "family values" crowd. These are the folks who insist they know what's best for the virtue of young people...lovely.

The same people he was speaking to went through the roof when Kerry only mentioned that Chaney's daughter was a lesbian.

I try to stay neutral, as both parties are full of opportunistic twats, but the republican party just does not seem to have any class. I honestly think that it is more of a show to appeal to their supporters.

Yeah, I mean when your opponent runs push polls in South Carolina attacking your mental state (as though he were a Manchurian Candidate), attacking your wife's mental health, and hinting that you've fathered a bi-racial child out of wedlock when in fact you've adopted children from another country, and you not only brush it off, but you actively support the guy later, you've shown you're willing to sell out your family for your ambition. I can't respect a guy like that. I can understand selling out a lot for what you might consider the greater good, but not family.

yeah, i mean honestly McCain is just another tool in the Republican Machine. Whenever the Republicans need to look like they try to work with the other side of the aisle, they trot out McCain. McCain has been a loyal soldier for a while, but still has this image of being beyond partisan politics.

It looks like this entire row was McCain's way of killing Obama's bipartisan creds. Obama is a rising star among the Democrats. Republicans want to lay a backstory for future character attacks against him. So, for instance, if Obama is the vice presidential candidate in 2008, they want to have a history of attacks on him banked, ones that allege he's a liar, or too partisan, or untrustworthy, whatever. Now they can simply refer back to Obama's 'character issue', the questions about his honesty, etc. rather than have to make the case on its merits. And the fact that these attacks came from golden boy John McCain means that they have a better chance of sticking.

I find it ironic that the only Republican in Washington with the sack to speak out AT ALL in the last four years or so against the White House, is now being called "A Republican kiss-ass".

What the fuck do you people want from him?
Every single politician worth anything has to tow the party line, or they dont get anywhere in a political career.
There isnt a completely honest, or truely amazingly qualified politician in the universe.
All there is, are varying degrees of shit.

Yes, McCain has to occasionally go against his nature, and bow to the wishes of Bush and Co, but thats part of the game.
Can anyone tell me how many times hes actively spoken out against something Bush has done?
The answer wont surprise anyone who pays attention.
Quite a few.

This doesnt mean that McCain is by any means, above the kind of kow-towing and pandering one must do to be an elected offical.
Far from it...how many times has he been elected to the Senate now?
The point is, while he is far from perfect, calling him an ass kisser is a bit of a stretch, considering the number of times he has spoken out against his own President, when no other Republican would.

No it isnt.

1. The man served his country, and was imprisoned in the Hanoi Hilton from 68-73. He deserves respect for that, even if he never did another thing.

2. Be careful how much respect you give to ANY politician. Particularly one that may want to be President.

I gotta say that given both letters, McCain is the one who comes off as petulent, petty, and passive aggressive. Three of my least favorite qualities.
