What's a good beer for those who are just starting out on Beers? I never really drank that much, but I dunno, I wouldn't mind kicking back one or two every once in a while. So what would yall recommend. Just to let ya know, I live in the USA.

If you're beginner, you need to drink yourself silly until you barf all over the place. That's the traditional way to start, and beer has nothing to do with it.
Not really a beer, but for me, a good intro was "Strongbow".

Assuming of course you are of legal drinking age, is cost a consideration?

Go with Blue Moon (domestic), or maybe some Amstel Light(Holland).
...if you want a mainstream macrobrew, I would suggest Michelob Light. It's the only one that even attempts to have taste.
If you live in the US, then Budweiser is your best bet.
It's a crap beer...there is MUCH better stuff out there. Once you can pack away a few Budweisers though, you can then comfortably move on to darker, better stuff...both domestic and imported. :)

Yes I am of age, and no cost isn't really that big of an issuse. Then go for a microbrew, one of the small brewerys in your area. I recomend a Pale Ale to start with. Just taste a few and see what you like.
If you can see through it, it's just mildly alcoholic barly pop.
Go get a Guinness. Better yet, a few Black & Tans.
Chimey is good.
Sam Adams makes some decent Ales.
Bocks, DoppelBocks, Ales and Stouts should be where you get your taste for beer. After that, if you want to drink cold yellow piss water, you can. ;)

My first time being drunk(as well as the most drunk I've ever been) was with vodka. Called wolfschmidt, cheap ass stuff. We bought a handle, and me and a friend drank half of it that night.
Anyways, me and my friends have been pretty exclusively drinking steel reserve recently. Its an 8.1%(not proof) beer, and tastes fine to a beginner like me. First beer I didn't gag on(though it could have just been me getting used to drinking beer).

For a beginner, I would go with a 3.2 like Coors. No taste but you can drink twice as much without getting smashed. Or there are no alcohol beers such as O'Dools (I think I spelled that wrong) If you want to get smashed, Colt 45 Malt. Twice the buzz, half the drinking.
I would stay away from Bud. Has a bad aftertaste the next morning. Miller is good. Don't know if they still make Hamm's. Used to really like it but haven't seen it in years. Original Sam Adams is terrible, but I see they have several new ones out.
As someone said, the micros are more expensive, but adjusted to local taste.
I don't really think that the more you spend the better applies. Tastes vary so much. Just try what your friends offer till you find a good one.

So far I've tried a bunch of beers and I'm not a fan of any of them. Bud was one of the better ones I've had so far. Heineken was horrible, and I'd stay away from the cheap "college student" stuff.
Smirnoff Twisted V's aren't technically beers (unless you live in Texas, then they're 'flavoured beers' instead of 'flavoured malt beverages'). They're a whole lot better tasting however.

There are so many elitists, it really annoys me. Steel reserve goes down smoother than anything else I've had(not the greatest selection, but I've sampled a good number of things), and it will get you pretty buzzed.

All these people are throwing random useless suggestions at you. First of all no one can suggest anything until you say how much of a beginner you are. I've never met anyone who had a natural love for beer (granted everyone I know started fairly young and there must be some of them out there). Beer is an aquired taste. That is not just horse-shit, when I had my first beer I could barely handle the taste of a sip; I remember chasing it with potato chips. By the time I reached legal age (May of this year) I was and am a decent judge of beer. I am no afficianado but I can tell the parts of a taste and decide what I like and don't easily and with some basic knowledge of why I feel that way.
Where are you at?:
--Rarely drink ever, don't really like beer at all: Screw all these people start with something that tastes pretty watery and is cheap like keystone light, Busch light or any bargin lower end beer. Honestly if you really don't care for the taste you just gotta sit around drinking something until it grows on you a bit. (it will) Just stay away from ices and higher content beer in the beginning. Not a taste for people who don't like beer. Then move on when you have a footing to something better. The cheap factor is just logic, if you don't like it why spend lots of money. Cheap beer will get you used to it just like expensive beer. Then you can better appreciate the better ones later on.
Rarely drink ever but don't mind the taste of beer: If this is the case you might as well just grab a case of whatever you feel. Start with the mainstream stuff but don't be afraid to just pick up any beer that looks interesting to you. Half the fun is trying new microbrews and brands. You said money isn't really an issue so you should have any problem just buying random sixes of different stuff to test out. YOu don't like it? Struggle through or just have a friend pop you a few dollars back for the rest.
Have drank before but never really got into the whole beer thing and don't really trust your own judgement yet. I'd say if you don't mind beer but just never really got into chilling out with one follow what I said above as well. Just take enjoyment in trying all different types of beer. It doesn't take many to find if you lean towards pale ale or a porter or whatever. Then just narrow it to some brands you like. THen you can just grab a few random beers to start the night and switch to a tried and true brand to mellow out with after.
Interested to know how you would describe your own experience and place among what I've said. Hope I helped a bit. Just remember, the people who tell you to go for the lower alcohol beers are telling you to settle for a less, don't take it (little known that Amstel light is very low in alcohol content comparitively). Likewise high content beers won't taste that good usually.

Stoney do you find you like beer? Or is it still kinda blah for you?
Oh yea in addition to the above it should be noted that lime does not exclusively go with corona. Actually any very light similar beer as most of the above get the same benefit from the flavor of lime. It is just a little weirder to drop it in a coors light can in the middle of winter. Could help for the first beer if you are still getting over the taste though.

what you need to do is shotgun miller lites!
How to shotgun a Miller Lite
by SpectreX
1. Buy a six-pack of Miller Lite
2. Go to a secluded, outdoors location
3. Turn can's long axis to the horizontal
4. Using a knife or set of keys, puncture the can to form a thumb sized hole on the side of the can towards the bottom. It shouldn't be a problem considering the can is now on its side.
5. Place mouth over the hole and plug it with your tounge. Turn the can rightside up (your head should now be sideways) and place a finger near the opener thingie.
6. On a friend's count of 3, open the can and chug as quickly as possible.
7. Repeat five more times.
DON'T FORGET TO RACE YOUR FRIENDS!!!

My first experience with alcohol was drinking half a fourty of Crown Royal with store brand cola as a chaser. I would recommend it to anyone.
Out of all the Beers I have had, Coors Light is the least bitter tasting making it my recommendation. If you are not used to bitter foods/drinks, a la me, beer is going to taste really bitter the first couple nights you drink it. Once you start getting drunk you will start to lose your sense of taste and they will be easier to drink. I would only drink about one more after this point as you will likely end up with a hangover if you keep going.

Anyway, guinness was my first beer, very good (only from draft, though).
Corona from a bottle is also tasty.

I say go for the Kraut beers. Lowenbrau, Holsten, Gosser (which is Austrian but close enough) or Paulander are all excellent.
Or the British/Irish beers, since after the Germans they know 'em best. An ale, not a lager in this case.
Just wondering for no particular reason, how old are you, and what is the drinking law in Europe?
In the netherlands you are allowed to drink at the age of 16, but that's only things like beer... at the age of 18 your allowed to drink the strong stuff.. I think it went like that anyway

Although I was already getting drunk, try a Bloody Mary, but instead of vodka- throw in a couple shots of beer... I thought I was in heaven

A decent starter beer in the US (that is also very cost-wise) is Budweiser Select. Sure, there are better Pilsners out there all over the place, but you get Bud Select cold and you've got a decent starter beer. Something else I'd advise as a starter beer, although it isn't one you'd get blitzed on, is not a brand, but a type of beer. I'd recommend a nice wheat beer. Very gentle beer, not your traditional beer flavor (espescially if you get the kind brewed with the banana cloves, then it tastes like a banana muffin) and a low alcohol content. Even though I've drank a lot of beer (sure, I'm underage, but does that really matter?) I still really enjoy both of those for what they're worth.
Espescially a nice wheat beer on a hot summer afternoon, camped out on your back porch with a good book. Not much else in the world like it. But that's an experience that's a couple months away for me, and probably you as well, so yeah.

I really think Belgium beers are the best. Leffe blonde is really nice - strong but very nice, fruity flavour. Kwak is also good, and Kriek. But they are expensive and difficult to get hold of.
You want a kick in your pants go for a Belgian Tripel. Good stuff, just a high alcohol content for a beer.

What's a good beer for those who are just starting out on Beers? I never really drank that much, but I dunno, I wouldn't mind kicking back one or two every once in a while. So what would yall recommend. Just to let ya know, I live in the USA.

I'd start with some really crappy beer... if you can drink that, you can drink anything probably.
So... start with Hamms (if you can find it) or maybe Busch Light.
Beer is very much a matter of personal opinion. I've never enjoyed beers like Budweiser, Miller, Coors, Corona, Keystone or the like, but I can see how any of those might be a good starter beer if you're not used to the taste.
A hefeweizen might not be a bad place to start; they're not my favourite beers but they actually have decent flavour. My other suggestion would be a marzen (Gordon Biersch makes a decent one, or try one from a local brewery). Both have good flavour, but tend to be nice and smooth, without that bitter taste that so many people dislike.
After you get used to beer, go nuts! Try out whatever takes your fancy. I add my voice to those that suggest Belgian beer. Some of my personal favourites are Chimay Bleu, Kwak, and Orval - these can be difficult to impossible to find, depending on your location. I also like Guinness, Newcastle, Fat Tire, and Blue Paddle (another New Belgium beer).

I agree Gordon Biersch is good and I usually don't like beer that much.
Newcastle and Guiness are also good and so is Negra Modelo.
I'm trying to remember the name of this really good Belgian beer but can't seem to. Crystal something? The best Belgian beer is Lambic (fruit flavored, corked and awesome!)
This (http://www.australianbeers.com/beers/tooheys_old/tooheys_old.htm) is a better Aussie beer than a Crownie for the price IMO.
Though I second Coronas, they do go down easily.
OLD?!?! Are you trying to kill the kid? :p

Hmmm... apparently I'm the first one in 7 pages to mention Innis and Gunn. I'm actually quite proud of that. I like Guiness and Kilkenny, but neither have anything on Innis and Gunn. Actually, it's an excellent starter beer, because it's not bitter at all. The stuff is the elixer of life.

EDIT: Stuff's bloody expensive, though, compared to the shit (Bud, etc) most people call beer. Innis is like 3$ a bottle.

I see a lot of votes for newcastle brown ale. If you really want to defile yourself that way, do it properly, with either McEwen's Best Scotch, or LCL Pils.

I'd go for something slightly sweet to start with. If you try guiness (or any stout), you're liable to never want to drink beer again.
(Likewise with wine - go for a reisling then work your way through to Syrah/Shiraz.)
So a good lager, perhaps a pilsner. Go for Stella, which is very refreshing, abeit a little bland.
Best beers to try would be two NZ beers:
Mac's Blonde,a pilsner with orange and coriander (try it before you diss it. On a hot summer's day it disappears bloody quickly)
http://www.macs.co.nz/images/2004/blonde_mac_bottle.jpg
Montieth's Summer Ale, with manuka honey and spices

Stella?!? Heavens forfend. That's the Belgian equivalent of Budweiser! No, seriously. I've never understood why Americans insist on importing things like Stella, Fosters, Corona or the like.
Not a bad suggestion to start with something slightly sweet, although the first beer I ever had was Guinness and I've never looked back.

The question asked was related to good beers.
Even if the thread deviates from beers to lagers, I cannot see how anyone can say

Mac's Blonde,a pilsner
Pilsner is a larger, there is no such thing as a 'lager beer'. The process and ingredients are different.
Drink this -

and while you're drinking it, say 'This is an ale but I may call it beer, Now I know the difference between lager and beer, lager shall never pass my lips again'.

First of: No US "beer".
Secondly: My recommendation would be to drink killkenny or some other guiness...but then again, my view is biased since it is my favourite kind of beer.

seriously:
go out and buy some Bass ale (a basic, fairly light, ale) and some Warsteiner lager (a good, basic lager).
then you will have the two main categories: ales and lagers.
further breakdown:
Ales:
Ale (pale ale, India pale ale, nut brown ale, etc.)
Porter
Stout
Lagers:
Lager
Pilsner
Bock
There are a lot of variations on the lagers and ales, but to my knowledge those are the three main subcategories of both main beer groups.
You'll likely find lagers to be lighter, crisper, more carbonated than ales.
Ales are smoother, retain their head far better, and are more filling. Because they're smoother, ales are generally easier to drink. But then, they usually carry more of an aftertaste.
at any rate, figure out if you're an ale or a lager fan.

I disagree. Guiness was only the third beer I tried, and I loved it immediately. Not as good as Innis and Gunn, though. Seriously, has no one here had Innis?

I used to drink a fair bit of Stella in my youth.
Anyone else know Stella as "Wife-beater?"
Personally I'd stay away from most lagers, but I'm extremely biased against them so you may not want to listen to me. Personally, I think you should try Cider, very nice stuff (just stay away from the infamous White Lightning)
