For the Record (RE: The whole cartoons thing)

Some point in the future, people are going to look back at this time and say "Those people in 2006 were complete morons to get worked up over this whole thing, weren't they?" Let's take an objective look at the situation as it currently stands.

A few really bad cartoonists draw unfunny comics to prove the point that Islamic people would find them offensive.
Muslims are offended by this. Big surprise there. Most of them protest peacefully, but definitely angrily. Over a cartoon.
Many European people get angry that the Muslims are angry. They take it as a personal insult that people would take insults personally. Love the logic there.
This just works to heighten a fear in the Middle East of European Islamophobia. So some Muslims get even angrier and start getting violent - because people were angry that they were angry.
Europe, in response, starts to tarnish the whole faith with the same brush and thus gets angrier still, because the Middle East was angry that they were angry that the middle east was angry. Over a cartoon.
Trade roots are closed, embassies are shut and burned, foreign citizens are told to get out while they still can.

I think what this calls for is a very simple statement of non-solidarity:

This whole affair is, quite possibly, the most ridiculous and pathetic venture that mankind has ever engaged in, and it needs to stop before we're all made to look like complete fools.

If I were to make an official petition on that, would you join me in requesting that the world leaders and those public elements that are escalating the problem just drop the whole damned travesty?

No. To get that offended over a poorly drawn cartoon is absurd, and I will not have sympathy for them acting like spoiled teenage girls when someone is mean to them. I don't find fault in Western governments scoffing at the notion that they censor their media in order to avoid offending Muslim sensibilities. Christianity and Judaism get along just fine with almost constant criticism and mocking, and they haven't seen the need for an International Day of Anger or whatever. I try to be tolerant, but this amount of bitching is just ridiculous. The people upset by this need to get over themselves.

Thats pretty mush right. They're all unbeleivably stupid, and thats putting it lightly. From the people who printed the crappy cartoons to the people who got offended by the crappy cartoons.

But normally when I'm discussing a matter like this my post would be a bit more complex but in this case thats all there is to say, apart from: being stupid isnt a crime. The crimes were destroying the embassy and other scandinavian buildings and possibly the stupid placards displayed on the protest marches calling for the deaths of anyone who knocked Islam.
