So it turns out that the cartoons in the Danish newspaper weren't sufficiently degrading to arouse anger in the Muslim world. To compensate for that teh imams in the danish Muslim community created three imgaes themselves and took them to the middle east and lied and said they were printed in the danish newspaper. It is believed that it is these three images that were really behind all this anger.

They invent reasons to be offended as and when needed. For example the lies about GITMO and the koran being desecrated, which actions were "unthinkable to islam". However, far worse actions by the janjaweed only 18 months earlier were completely forgivable.

There really is no point in trying to understand it on a rational level.

Married Aisha at 9 because she had no family and only with her permission. Marriage was not consummated (meaning secks) until she was 16, which at the time was plenty old enough, and still is the age of consent in many countries (and not just the Middle East).

Hence, no pedophilia.

A little education goes a long way. Too little is a travesty.

I don't recall seeing those images in the various web distributions of the newspaper images. Whether that is because they weren't there or my memory is poor I don't know.

Aye ... could be. I've been having trouble finding any mention of this outside of blogs and, well, we know what valuable and unbiased sources of information those can be. ;)

I don't think there would have been any trouble if the paper had printed your pics here - it's an issue of deliberately painting them disrespectful, in a deliberate ploy to create controversy, by a paper that has a history of supporting the government's populistic anti-Muslim and anti-Immigration stance.

I don't think the paper should not be allowed by law to print pictures like these - but the journalists should have been smarter than to piss people off just to prove they can.

I meant those in your like to ancient, traditional art depicting Mohammed. If you put those into your book, or newspaper, then that's just dandy, and nobody would really have gotten angry.

Actually if you scroll from top to bottom you'll see modern day cartoons from all over the world depicting Mohammed in very unflatering ways and no one heard a peep. This whole thing is not just outrage at being insulted. Its a political maneuver.
