Interesting Fact About the iPod Video...

I'm sure most people out there either own or know someone who owns an iPod Video. a fun little gadget that alows you to view videos on the go. But for some, the screen on the iPod is a little too small for an enjoyable movie. Thus Apple has created the Apple iPod AV Cable (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/7200601/wo/MS5s0Fhosxc42O20EKhlPxHvJFY/11.0.19.1.0.8.25.7.11.0.3) so you can watch movies that you add to your iPod on your TV. What a wounderful thing Apple has made. And it is the only AV cable that is compatable with the iPod and you can only buy it from Apple. However a $10 cable from your local radioshack will do exactly the same thing... if you know what Apple did to lock the iPod to their cable. It doesn't take brains or any sort of computer knowledge or chips or anything. To make the $10 cable work, all you have to do is switch the red and yellow wires when you plug them into your TV.

This is becoming a trend with Apple and every other company out there and it's begining to annoy me. Apple also locked their OSX 10.4(Intel) to their own computers. Now i like OSX (i never liked any of the Mac OS'sa) but i have become fond of OSX and it's Unix base. But Apple has locked that to a chip in the hardware of their computers, so now i have to wait around for someone to create a mod chip for OSX to be used on a PC before i can buy it and add it to my collection of XP and Linux OS's.

It's little tricks like these that make me want to have nothing whatsoever to do with corperate society. Everything today is all about the money. That and taking advantage of gullible people. What ever happened to helping the little people and trying to make everything easier for everyone instead of harder?

According to the website Apple only charges 19 dollars for that cable... if it had been $100 or so you would have had a point though.

still exemplifies the fundamental lack of choice you get with apple products...

Your Sister sucks.

She is supporting the rise of the Apple Google Global Empire. While Apple makes millions deaf, Google will force people to go to sites that further their political ideals. Then when were all deaf and indoctrinated, they will seize power of the whole world!

So go slap your sister, return the ipod, and buy a creative product.

Apple limits people to apple stuff, which naturally results in higher prices. In return they guarantee more stable systems and higher performance than the competition.

So.. when buying apple products you are making a choice. If you dislike wholly depending on the whims of a single company, don't buy apple. If you dislike higher prices, don't buy apple. If you don't care about those things and like minimal fuss - consider apple. A simple personal choice.

I myself picked non-apple btw ;)

quite... which is why the stereotype is 'simple computers for simple people', or why apple's computers, amongst PC users, tend to have the moniker of a child's 'my first computer' (thats not to say all apple users are simpletons or noobs of course... its just the stereotype)

i know people, of course, who have 'switched' to apple because they're fed up of "all the things that go wrong on PCs" but they tend to not really know what they're doing with their PC in the first place (or using outdated PC software/hardware)... kinda supporting the stereotype above.

you're right that it is a simple, personal choice, and i'm sticking with PCs without a doubt.
and frankly, PC OS's (including the much-hated (but not by me) Windows) do a very stable and good job considering the range of hardware and architectures they have to deal with
