Okay so, today in my inbox, I get a forwarded message from my great-aunt (I hate forwarded messages, but she is 98 so I read hers anyway and reply, it makes her happy) She forwarded this to me from a friend of a friend of a friend of a neice, apparently they are all really upset about it. I think it's funny. I don't see how it's "mocking Christ", not that I like Brittney Spears or anything but you know it's kinda surreal her playing a devout Christian, and then the name of the show is cute (I think), but before I email my very old, very eccentric, very can "write me out of her will" (which I doubt I am actually in, I think she just says that to try to control me) and tell her that I think it's funny, and that I didn't "contact my congressmen".........can someone tell me what the problem is? really?

SPECIAL ALERT! NBC to mock the Crucifixion of Christ

Dear Heidi,

Visit the new AFA Superstore today! NBC, fresh from giving us the anti-Christian The Book of Daniel, has decided to hit back at the Christian community by presenting an episode of Will and Grace which mocks the crucifixion of Christ.

On the April 13 edition of NBC's Will and Grace, Britney Spears will appear as a Christian conservative sidekick to Sean Hayes' homosexual character, Jack, who hosts his own talk show.

Jack's fictional network, Out TV, is bought by a Christian TV network, leading to Spears contributing a cooking segment called "Cruci-fixin's." To further denigrate Christianity, NBC chose to air it the night before Good Friday.

Click Here to read the Associated Press article.

NBC does not treat Jews, Muslins or other religions with such disrespect. Yet the network demonstrates a deep of hostility toward followers of Christ.

Oh, and what do you think?

oh her niece thinks everything is "attacking Christianity" I think she is trying to brainwash all of us. I would much rather spend my time worried about me than worried about what NBC may or may not be showing, I don't watch Will & Grace anyway, I seriously doubt that they are worried about keeping thier "conservative Christian audience" though.

Oh, and what do you think?Tell her if she feels so strongly about it, she and her friends can complain to NBC. but caution her to becareful to explain that it's the portrayal of the religion that she is against and not the fact that the main characters are 1) gay, 2) Selfish 3) egotistical 4) petty 5)promiscuous and 6) open minded.

or she and her friends can just not watch it.

how exactly is being upset about a TV show wanting a theocracy?

how is it any different than the Muslims who are upset about that newspaper cartoon? (don't answer that, I just did)

Oh yeah, that's some quality mockery. All Christians must rise up in arms over this insult to their collective faith, just like they all rose up against the indignity of Macy's employees saying "Happy Holidays."

Seriously, you should reply with:

"Thank you for alerting me to this serious issue. However, I regret to inform you that I will be unable to join your crusade against irreverent situation comedies, as I am presently busy feeding the hungry, tending to the sick, and caring for the poor."

in a way, I can.

the Crucifixtion of Christ is an important event. it's like haveing a Laxitive called "The Pass-over" or a line of cold cuts called "Islami" or a book of non-secular affirmations called "Athe-isms" it can be seen as satirical, or it can be seen as an insult.

Oh calm down, they didn't call for them government shut NBC down or anything...did they?

Fact of the matter is some Christians are more sensitive than others and would be absolutely pissed off to hear about something like that...personally I think God has a sense of humor...but then again even as a Christian I absolutely loved the movie Life of Brian, so I'm not the norm...

Life of Brian is hilarious. I think my great-aunt would have a problem with it too though, she almost disowned me when I was 8 and had a Rocky Horror Picture Show birthday party. :p

1. A state which censors things for being slightly anti-religious sounds pretty theocratic to me.
2. I never said it was different.

and the difference is, one is using proper channels to effect change, the other is useing violence and terror to effect change.

Yes, I Realize That Smunkee, But What I'm Saying Is, Your Family Complains About Everything That Is Anti-Christian, Even If They Don't Have To Encounter It. For Example, Your Grandmother Doesn't HAVE To Watch NBC, She Apparently Just Chooses So So That She Can Complain About It And Try To Get NBC Shut Down. All She Has To Do Is Flip The Channel. Not That Hard! I Mean, You Don't Complain About It, Even Though It May In Your View Be Insulting Your Religion. You Realize That It's Freedom Of Speech And Just Good, Clean (Maybe Not So Much...) Humor. But Then Again, If I Was Still Protestant, I'd Probably Be Screaming My Head Off About How Evil These Programs Are.

they do complain about everything, it's annoying. I could complain about how evil shows are these days, but I choose to ignore it, and support the shows I like (so they don't get cancelled) Now, if a show I like does something crazy, I am the first to write in to the network, the producers, the writers, the actors, and all the while complain about it on my blog, but that's different I think.

I find myself more and more these days having to defend my entertainment choices, and it angers me to no end. Yes, I watch "mainstream TV", yes, I am addicted to Gilmore Girls (and I have been since the very first show), yes, I let my kids listen to "secular music", yes, I think that's okay, even though I am a Christian............

What does that have to do with it? If a person wants the state to censor a programme because of irreverence, then they are, to some degree, theocratic.

and the difference is, one is using proper channels to effect change, the other is useing violence and terror to effect change.

I never said it wasn't different either, so ha!

Christians are fair game for humour, in todays politacally correct mindset the only people who can be and are insulted by Humourisms are the 'majority'

If a show were to be aired that depicted black people as slaves there would be outcry and it would be stopped (it just wouldnt happen), if a show were to be aired that depicted women as being stupid and less than men it would be stopped (once again doubt it would happen). But any show that goes after white poeple, men or christians (in any order or combination) is fair game:P

They (we, i am a member of at least one of those groups :) ) are paying for the intolerance that they have subjected upon others over the past number of years.

It does peeve me off slightly (not much mind i dont mind at all, but its something ive noticed) but that for example Racism is a term that means white people hating on black people (where as the opposite can be true and fits the same definition but rarely is considered as serious) or that if someone says something against Muslims or Jews there is out cry but anti Christianisms or Anti-Atheist comments are acceptable. (That polical correctness even though its getting to be so so important it only works one way in many cases)
Note they are just examples i am sure there are more, or that i may be wrong ofc but i have noticed them in my society

Not that i think they should all be unacceptable, but that they should all be acceptable and everyone and everything is fair game in the world of humour, you gotta look on the funny side of things :D

Not to mention that i think this is just a spam email that is based on complete nothing :P you know how it is people write an email that will get forwarded and the only way to do this is scare people, insult people or promise people that all their wishes will come true if they send it to 10 people or more.
