I've got the feeling they're not using the constitution to limit their freedoms.

You guys just like the word constitutional, but I am beginning to wonder if it even means anything at all.

As of now... not yet. But there is pending legislation to add amendments to make certain morals illegal. EG. Gays getting married

I think you are mixing politics with the Constitution.

The anti-gay marriage amendment was nothing more then a tool to get Religious people involved in the elections.

I will tell you now there will NEVER be an amendment defining marriage.

It was a ploy nothing more.

You see when you open the Constitution for change; you open all of it.

Even the most radical conservatives don't trust the government when it comes to changing the Constitution. ;)

You clearly have no comprehension as to what the constitution even is, if you belive it is a document that grants you rights. Return to your studies and find these things out, then you will see that your argument is completely silly.

Bah, would you prefer the opposite to the Constitution then?
(think of pro, being the opposite of con)

Are you suggesting Prostitution?

Have you seen the administration in action? (think Jeff Gannon. and Tom Delay's trip to Saipan)

I am shocked to find myself in agreement with Liverbreath.

BTW, PurgatoryHell, your understanding on the Constitution and our legal system is confused in many other ways as well.

EDIT: I do agree it is contrary to the spirit of the document to add an amendment banning same-sex marriage. Instead, it should be recognized that same-sex marriage is protected by the 5th and 14th Amendments.

Sometimes i feel like there is the honest hard working America and I have to punch my way though walls of bullshit to get to it -- except with every wall that goes down, the next one is just thicker, more bullshit. Polticians are constantly erecting more walls in the background and the cycle never ends...

How is it that a document that is supposed to grant you freedoms and rights is now being manipulated by the government to try to limit them and set morals?
Constitution sets freedoms, laws limit them.
Why do they need to use the document on which our nation was founded upon to try to shoot down homosexuals? It's rediculous and discriminating. I myself am not gay, but if you can be happy being gay, have at it.

Off subject stuff:

The 'land of the free', isnt so free anymore. We have so many freedoms they conflict with one another. Every day some big case goes to some court and gets ruled upon and gets sent to a higher court and is ruled against, and goes to ever higher courts and the decision is reversed each time.
Freedom isnt free... And you certainly can't trust it when it's not in your hands.
3 Days after i filled out 'selective service' i got a letter in the mail saying i had ben 'involuntarily assigned' to a base in Alaska.
I was then sent to Russia, where incident would have it, a skirmish left two of my buddies dead.
See how weak the constitution is? It doesnt protect us against dictator-like presidents who will do everything to have things their way.
AND someone answer this... Why were things so much better for people under Clinton's Admin than Dubya's Admin? Now only huge companies benefit, and yet they are all always on the verge of bankruptcy... except oil companies who report 200% profit increases since 2000.
-Thank you, point proved
There are so many things wrong with this post that I have NO idea where to begin. You need to study both history and the Constitution. The federal court system was included in the Constitution to interpret both the laws and the Constitution itself. What part of this do you not understand?

Are you saying you were drafted? Some clarification of your status when you "filled out 'selective service'" would be nice. This whole thing sounds fishy in the extreme.

But also what is a country that drafts you THREE DAYS AFTER YOU TURN 18?
I am from a one-horse town in missouri. No one would miss me if i had been killed in Russia.
I have a great understanding of this constitution that 'protects' its citizens by 'selling' soldiers to other countries.
America had no business in Russia... so why was I there protecting 50' long transport trucks that they told you they'd shoot you if you saw what was in them?
I am not confused in this.
I was sent to fight by America, but not for America....
Corrupt... I think so
Talk these politics to me when this bullshit happens to you.

Who's in the what now?

Really, when did this alleged Russia incident occur?

Where does the Constitution grant you rights? It sets out how the US government will work, what the duties are of the three branches of government are and the like. The Bill of Rights gives us our rights and even that is simply a guideline, it is the laws that come after that affect us.

For me, it's the part where the neocons scream "ACTIVIST JUDGES!!1!" every time the federal court system actually performs said interpretation. Amendments like this get so much airplay, if not necessarily results, precisely because there is a block of people who do not want the judiciary doing any interpreting.
