Right, everyone keeps talking about grades, Junior High, Elementary, High School. Well I'm from New Zealand and I don't know what the hell people are on about as we have a different system. So, can you tell me what "grade" (ie Grade 7 blah) equals what age and what ages you go to different types of schools?

Grades 1st Definition:
the class, for example, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade...and so forth. 9th Grade is freshman, 10th Grade is sophmore, 11th Grade is Junior, and 12th Grade is senior. 12th Grade is the last year. Some people have kindergarden, preschool, or DK before 1st Grade. I don't really know what DK is.
Grades 2nd Definition:
the letter or percentage recieved for a subject
I don't want to explain the scale, don't ask!

School in the US usually starts at age 5 with K and goes until 18 and 12th grade (senior year).
Depending on the area, K-5th is elementary school, 6th-8th is middle school, and 9th-12th is high school. The other system invloves K-6th for elementary, 7th-9th for junior high, and 10th-12th for high school.
OK...I might be a little off with the ages, but it all depends on your local school district anyways, so here goes.
Preschool
4 yrs and younger
Kindergarden
5-6 yrs old
Elementary School
1st grade : 6-7 yrs old
2nd grade : 7-8 yrs old
3rd grade : 8-9 yrs old
4th grade : 9-10 yrs old
5th grade : 10-11 yrs old
6th grade : 11-12 yrs old
Middle School / Junior High School
7th grade : 12-13 yrs old
8th grade : 13-14 yrs old
High School
9th grade : 14-15 yrs old
10th grade : 15-16 yrs old
11th grade : 16-17 yrs old
12th grade : 17-18 yrs old
---
Some places have 6th grade lumped in with the junior high school kids. Some kids don't start kindergarden till age 6. There are minor differences wherever you go, but that list gives you the basic idea.
Hope that helps. :)

Old system:
Elementary School: K-6
Junior High School: 7-8 (Sometimes 7-9)
High School: 9-12( sometimes 10-12)
New system:
Primary School: K-3 or 4
Intermediate School: 4-6 or 5-7
Middle School: 7-9(sometimes 6-8 or 6-9)
High School: 9-12(sometimes 10-12)
The point being that schools have gotten a lot more complicated sinc I went. :p

Ages aren't good to judge grade level. I started early, for example.
