Just wondered what the mindset was on here concerning the USA. I don't care if its possible, I just want to see what people would like.

Like that'd work...er...Federalism.
If you get mostly succesionist results post a poll asking about who would support revolution
No thanks, not really practical.
One of the reasons the US is so strong is that the union is rich in most resorces that are needed. The individual states just don't have that.

Dude, wow, totally thanks. You managed to complete with spelling, that which was left incomplete by phonetics and common sense, EXTREME!
Polls can't be edited.
I am not "looking for a word", thats something english majors do when they feel the need to masterbate.

Well, I have found this whole "liberal vs republican" (noting how both words are really misnomer here) business silly, to be honest.
Neither side really differs on the big issues, there is no threat to the major parties in the US from anyone - and still they are fighting some sort of made-up culture-wars.
I mean, have you looked at Ann Coulter's website? That is just beyond all reason. There have been wars about less unreasonable vitriol than that.
Meh...I plan to leave this place sooner or later (preferably sooner), so whatever they decide to do after I'm gone is perfectly OK with me. :)

This question could also apply to various other countries.
Including:
Spain
Belgium
Northern Ireland
just to mention a few in the western world.
I bet there are more all over the world.

Exactly!
Although I dunno about Greenland. They probably want to leave, but what would they do without all the money we pump into them, hmm?

Good question. But, my guess is, there'd be a whole lot less turists, and a lot more Inuits going out hunting in polar bear skins and dog-sleds. In other words, not too much. :p

Germany, I suppose could ask the question of the former East. It's never been seriously mentioned by anyone at all, but apparently some people are nostalgic for the old times.
And France's got Corsica.

Ohio has plenty of Resources and could stand alone.
Industry(Car, Steel, Rubber, Tanks(good ol M1 produced in Ohio)
Agriculture(Wheat, Corn, Dairy)
Minerals(Iron, Coal, some oil still, and some natural gas)
Decent Transportaion Network Rail, River, Air(at least one minor Airport per county and there is 88 counties I think) and Road.
At least 3 International Airports
With a Population of 11 million it'd be an average sized country.
I would say fishing, but I still don't trust anything coming out of Lake Erie.
If the state government wasn't so fucked up, it could survive on its own as its own Nation.

People should keep in mind that in a peaceful secession the state/states in question would still trade with the US and the rest of North America. And if it were California leaving I could see the rest of North America begging them to stay in NAFTA.
Anyway, while I'm extremely tired of seeing my state micromanaged by Washington, I'm willing to give Federalism another chance. If only Washington were willing to try it.
Still, I'm beginning to wonder if the US government is really necessary. It's not as though the Chinese would invade and occupy us if we didn't have a Federal government. The US govt was made to keep the states safer, and one could argue that it's done the exact opposite. And with complex interdependence of trade smaller nations are becoming more and more viable, assuming some sort of economic union or association.

I don't like any of the poll options, there are states I would want to leave the union, but I doubt they will, they are getting to good of a financial bonus by staying in. I don't want my state to leave the union, if they did (or tried to) I woudl move somewhere that was interested in staying. I like being an American. America isn't perfect, but imo we are doing our best most of the time. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

You know, the South has been talking about how it's gonna "rise again" for like 200 years. I, for one, would appreciate if they would just get around to it already. I don't particularly feel like pouring my tax dollars down their greedy throats any more.
Makes me want to go back in time and kick Lincoln's ass...we should have let the fuckers leave when we had the chance! :)
Of course, then we'd probably end up with some odd-ball cities hanging out in the South. Like Austin, Texas, for instance. It would probably end up being kind of like the Vatican, only liberal and gay-friendly :P.

I'm not the best speller in the world, but I was a bit confused when I saw the thread myself. Then I realized you were talking "leaving the union", not "becoming the next king".
I was wondering if you were some crazed Bush hater who was calling the U.S. a monarchy, and going to go on about how Jeb Bush was George W.'s heir or something.
Dammit, now I gave them ideas. I bet you Swilatia starts that very thread now.

I see this mistake made quite often. I wonder if there are certain places where "secede" and "succeed" are pronounced the same.
