*The sentencing infomation in this law is out of date, and is now subject to other legislation
Do you think that the muslims who called the following slogans in protest of the cartoons
"Butcher those who insult Islam"
"Behead those who mock Islam" - etc
are guilty of commiting a crime under this law? I think so. Currently the only reason they have not been arrested is that there were too many to process. But it seems only correct. They have broken the law.
Don't worry, there are other laws in the UK that cover it too.
Can't remember their names exactly, but I know they exist.

Okay...here is a challenge: Find me anyone on this forum who does not agree that what those protesters did was a crime and should be tried.
Hell, the Muslim community of Britain thinks so.

I don’t think it should be a crime, but according to British law it most probably is.

"Massacre those who insult Islam"
"Behead those who insult Islam"
"Annihalate those who insult Islam"
"Slay those who insult Islam"
"Whoever insults a prophet, kill him."
Shouldn't be a crime?
What constitutes an insult? I think it's a pretty broad range. Anything dealing with religion these days is bound to be insulting to someone, anyone, anywhere.

It's nothing to do with an insult.
Insults are fine. It's the calling people to attack others and kill them that is the problem.

Well, yes, I think just attacking someone would be a problem anywhere. Not being a religious person myself, I don't think I could ever understand this fervor that so many people (across the ocean from me) have.

I do not and never will agree with the BNP! But I uphold their right to free speech, and if that had been a BNP march you can be certain the Police would have acted there and then.
Was It the fear of being called racist, that stopped the Police from acting>

If we're banning incitement of religious hatred, it seems only fair that we should also ban religious incitement of hatred.
If we're banning incitement of religious hatred
Which we're not.

Dammit, I should be familiar with this stuff, I'm studying to be a lawyer! What the hell are we banning then? Genuine question, humble request for information...

Right now I don't really know.
Well, we are banning incitement to religious hatred, but I'm not really sure in what form now since the Lords amended it.
All the Lords' amendments were passed by the Commons (defeating the Government in that vote) so I'm not sure how the Bill stands now. The amended one will probably pass.

As long as it has the same name. Otherwise my soundbite is ruined.

Or ban all religions all together
Yeah. That's the way to promote tolerance (sighs).
Or ban all religions all together
Nah, you wouldn't want to do that.
