I suppose you have seen reports about Google agreeing to be provided censored content on the Chinese version of their site ...

So, I thought I would do search on "Tian An Men" on both sites and compare the result.

http://www.google.cn/search?hl=zh-CN&q=tian+an+men&meta=

Google.cn gives 36,1000 hits and the first 10 hits have

6 tourism sites
3 movie sites and
1 stamp collecting site

http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=tian+an+men&meta=

Google.com gives 1,580,000 hits and the first 10 hits are ...

5 tourism sites
4 references to the 4 June 1989 Massacre
1 music site

It's just business. Google wants China. And when in China, do what the Chinese do; whatever the government tells them to. :D

Oh, I had Chinese language support installed. I had no idea. I just thought I had Korean.

Anyway: "well, duh!" to the OP.

It could be good anyway. If some hacker finds a way to get to google.com and then spreads it, you've got information freedom. If there was no censored Google, there could not be a free google.

Meh, it's censored alright
Google.com (http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&q=tiananmen&spell=1) search for 'Tiananmen' (yes, spelling it differently brings up different results)
Now compare that to Googe.cn (http://images.google.cn/images?svnum=10&hl=zh-CN&lr=&cr=countryCN&q=tiananmen&btnG=%E6%90%9C%E7%B4%A2) and a search for 'Tiananmen'

I dont care about this. I will always use www.google.pl

anyway, to see the censorship on cineese google, see goddess of democracy on the image search. you will see no results.

Lol, I searched for "what" and the second link was to WhatReallyHappened, a 9/11 conspiracy site.

Edit: Never mind, that's the same for the regular Google.

Your viewpoint (whether true or false) is a conspiracy theory nonetheless.

So, how does this reconcile with ...

Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.

If roughly 20% of the world's population cannot access any piece of information, then can that information be said to be "universally" accessible or useful ?

P.S. I wish I had thought of linking the image search myself :) A picture truly does tell a thousand words. Tanks on .com, happy snaps on .cn says it all.
