Who plays guitar?

Who on NS plays guitar? If you do, what kind are you playing?

Most importantly, what/who is your favorite artist/style to play?

I'm on a Les Paul Standard... Love playing classic rock and Blues.

And does anyone know a good tabs site? I used to go on MXtabs.net, but it no longer works.

Keyboard / Synth guitar. *does that count?*

guitar: fender squire w/ gibson les paul bridge pickup and smooth bridge
bass: ibanez 5 string

i like to play anything, too lazy to learn real blues or jazz on guitar, so i mostly play rock, anything from audioslave to zz top. i like to play funkier stuff on bass, like 311 or RHCP.

for tabs, i just google whatever im looking for and pick the best one, don't really have a standard site.

I had a squire for a while...I've since given it to my youger brother. My bass can't compare (I got it for 150 bucks at a last minute thing... bassist quit the band, long story)

Thats what I've been doing for tab; I just don't like it that much.

I do.

I play anything and everything...I enjoy the blues a lot, but also heavy metal. I play a little bit of classical as well, but my knowledge there is pretty limited.

My current electric rig is a left-handed Cort X-2 played through a Laney LC-30-II valve amp. For pedals, I use an Electro Harmonix Big Muff and Boss CE-5 Chorus ensemble.I have three acoustics (one left handed steel string, one left-handed classical - which is buggered - and one right handed classical, to practice playing upside down on. :p Got another on the way this week, too.)

As for tabs, eh. I usually just use google. www.powertabs.net in conjunction with the Power Tab editor was my method of choice, but that's all illegal now...damned MPAA...

Why's it illegal?

Oh, and for an amp, I'm playing out of a Heath kit TA-16. I need to fix the speakers (they blew out before I bought it...50 bucks isn't bad), but once I do that it should be sweet.

yeah, im surprised at how well the squire has played, the action is perfect, the factory bridge was retarded and broke the high e like every two weeks, so i replaced the bridge.

Also forgot I have a nice martin acoustic/electric and I defretted my starter fender 4 string bass.

As for my electronics, oh boy: 6 track fostex mixer hooked up to computer, rp200A and bp200, rocktron banshee talkbox, Crate 100W bass amp that also works fine for guitar.

It's a copyright thing. The music publishers have decided that tablature and lyric websites are impeding their sales of sheet music, so they moved to ban it. And succeeded. (though only in the USA, but the rest of the world will probably be hit by it...)

$50, eh? My monster amp cost me $1500. (in our money...about $1000 American) Worth every penny too. :p [/brags]

My guitar is a little cheap, though. Being a lefty I usually have to settle for second best.

I don't need electronics; I'm hooked up in so many ways... several of my friends/their fathers own their own studios (I get to record free), and I go once a week (also free) to Jamspot; a recording studio in Boston with a few other friends of mine.

I love being connected.

I play metal, punk, rock, anything really.

Just a thought.

I've got a 450 watt bass cab/head setup...haven't mentioned that.

and even though my guitar amp was only 50 bucks, it was a t a frakking thrift shop. Once I fix it, it's gonna kick ass.

Guitar: Malibu Samick Stratocaster.

Huzzah for cheap knock-offs because you can't afford the real thing :p:

Meh, it'll do for now. Just six more months, just six more months...

Anywho... as for style, similar to you, classic rock and the blues. Love em to bits. In particular, the pyshcadelic era of rock. Ah, good stuff...

Favourite artists have got to be Pink Floyd and Cream. Ooh yeah...

I been playing for about 11 years. I have a heavy moded ibanez 7-string RG with seymour duncan pickups. Play shred, rock, jazz and classical. I own a classical guitar of course and planning on getting a gypsy jazz guitar. I know I can read notes, who else can?

oh hell yeah... been a longstanding dream of mine to own a recording studio! :P

done some recording and production for my mate's band on my computer (and a makeshift studio) in the past... actually quite boring work i found, in that it got really repetitive retaking the same bits of the song over and over, but the technology part of it is fun :)

Me, I just turn it up and I can't hear them.

Yeah.. Right now I'm on a Epiphone G-400 (I'd have something better if I could afford it, but I can't).

Primarily play punk, progressive, and hard rock with the occasional deviation to some of the intro's that Emo has popularized (I like paying with the odd diminished/minor sounds they use).

I use Ultimate-Guitar (Still working) and 911tabs (a search engine for tabs).

Yeah, but anyone can claim to play guitar by virtue of knowing how to play power chords or Stairway to Heaven. Finding someone that plays well is harder. :p

I use ultimate-guitar as well. I play an Ibanez acoustic--my standard joke is that I play well enough to get laid, but since I've been in a relationship for five-plus years now, I don't know if I'm that good enough anymore. I also have a cheap little Yamaha electric I played when I sat in with the brewery band last year (before I left San Francisco). I'm strictly a strummer, with the occasional finger picking thrown in. No solos--never learned my scales well enough.

That's the great thing about guitar, though--you can learn it well enough to get by without a whole lot of effort. By "well enough to get by" I mean, "sound like you know what you're doing at a party of drunks.":D
