40 hours. anyone know the record?

My personal record was 13 days. I was 17, hopped-up on things. After that I slept for five days without waking or batting an eyelid.

Pantygraigwen, you shouldn't beat yourself up about this girlfriend thing. She's obviously not good enough for you. Let it go.

The World Record is 11 days. People have died from less.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Gardner_%28sleep_deprived%29

EDIT: Actually, I don't think people have died from less. Wiki says that micro-sleep phases tend to develop, and that only after a few months of that can people actually die.
Anyone got more info?

After 5-7 days, you will no longer perceive the passage of time, and will see memories from different times of your life, tiled. Then the insects come.

Sadly, it's that combined with last night combined with general insomnia combined with the over-riding knowledge that i will die a cold and lonely death.

Still, you gotta laugh, eh? :)

but i suppose the longest for me would be about 48 hours on E over the last summer holiday. the world record is gonna be a hell of a lot longer than that. i'd look in the guiness book of records behind me if i could be arsed :D

I stayed up for about 6 days straight once, I was heavily into drugs though, and ended up sleeping for 3 days straight after that ( I didn't even go to the bathroom) it's not healthy. Go to sleep.

Oh, and when I was in labor with my 1st kid I didn't get any sleep either, I was in labor with her for about 65 hours.......that wasn't fun either.

After several days, you start suffering permanent brain damage (of course, that isn't taking into account the temporary brain damage that is inherit in all sleep deprivation)

Damn.. it was 11 years ago. I thought it was super long at the time.. but not a world record. I was speeding (if you catch my drift), eating dry toast and drinking bottles of robitussin, popping pills. At the end, after sleeping finally, I found I had at some point died my hair bright purple and blue.. and that I REALLY needed a shower. :p

I did a high number too, unsure but I basically woke up late Wednesday morning, didn't sleep at all Thursday, and fell asleep early Saturday morning. So whatever that correlates to I guess 2 1/2 days once? That was crazy man that's all I have to say. I was disappointed though, I never had hallucinations.

I haven't stayed up for particularly impressive amounts of time, but I did once stay up for 22 hours then had a 1 hour nap before another 22 hours awake.

I didn't have any coffee, but I did have some cups of tea.

Here's what I'd recommend if, for some reason, you have to stay up:

Water - keeps your brain hydrated. You will need the toilet a lot of course, but that probably helps too.
Have an extra meal - if your awake longer, I think you should eat at the middle of the time you would normally be sleeping.

Sleep deprivation leads to psychosis. After a couple of days you're going to be in a less than desirable mental state.

After about a week you're bat-shit crazy.

Unlucky! I would have thought it takes less alcohol to make you sleepy than drunk.

Hmm... well I would suggest darkness, lack of movement, comfortable temperature, lack of needing toilet. I suppose what I am saying is to give your body no other needs or stimuli.

They did give them pills and things late in the war to keep them fighting, and they probably did stay up for a while, but I don't think you could call them super warriors, or that they really stayed awake for weeks.

And by the way, when they were drugged, they'd also be even more happy to massacre a few people. Malmedy comes to mind.

Well, I woke up on Friday morning at 8am (NZT) and didn't get to bed until Saturday night 11.30pm HKT, which is 4.30am on Sunday NZT. So that equals 45 1/2 hours. I did sort of doze on the plane, but never went to sleep (there was a baby next to me and my row was the one right next to the toilet, so it made it kind of hard to sleep).
Added to that I only got 3 hours sleep on Wednesday night, didn't eat anything Thursday and 5 hours sleep Thursday night and that's 92 hours with 8 hours sleep total. Unsurprisingly when I finally got to bed last night I went straight out and didn't wake until 9.30am.

Longest I ever worked was 32 hours. I was working in the forest and just as we were to knock off for the day (after working 9 hours, starting at 6am) a forest fire at a different forest was called and we had to go up to help out. We had to put a fire break through and were meant to be relieved at 10pm (having started at 4pm), but no-one came by until 9am the following day.
That was tough. I started hallucinating by the end of it. Wasn't helped by the food poisoning I was suffering from at the time (never eat twice reheated tacos that have been sitting in the sun for 6 hours).

Interestingly if/when I go without sleep but aren't working (usually cause I've gone out on the town then caught up doing other stuff, or been on long-haul flights) I don't really feel it. But no sleep, then a few hours work absolutely knackers me. Must be the stress levels that come from work.
