Whilst pondering in boredom today, I began to draw up mental cross references between posters and historical figures and ideals, yes, I was intensely bored, and then proceeded to stop, and post the following thread to discover other posters sentiments. Please continue, I be tired...

I don't get it. Do you want us to draw analogies between ourselves and historical figures?

Well, there are two historical figures that I've linked to in my nation name, but you'll have to figure them out for yourself.

Me = Byron. Essentially revolutionary but too cynical to do bugger all about it. Fond of hedonism and capable of lacerating the powers that be, but also completely aware that all utopias are built on the bones of sacrificial victims.

And does a mean pose.

How about Kofi Annan. He seems to be a bit of an idealist.

But it's actually pretty difficult to think of someone in history who shared my ideas, because to be honest, democracy, pacifism, a bit of pragmatism in the economy are all relatively new ideas, and almost no one really combined them and stuck to it.

Ludwig Erhard (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/commandingheights/shared/minitextlo/prof_ludwigerhard.html) maybe.

Um, Emperor Norton? I think the internet makes us all into emperor nortons, sending these big pronouncements on the internet where they are promptly ignored and fancy that we are big important figures? also, i print my own money and talk with the queen of england?

Well, I don't dare to compare with anyone ;)

My primary historical "references" are the people of Paris' Commune (1871), the people of the Resistance during 1940-1944 (and who created the social security system in 1944) and Salvador Allende (Chile, 1970-1973). But there are many others I would use as "references" too if I knew them more ;)

Anyway, I don't dare to compare myself with any of those great men, so it doesn't really answer the question.

Patton wasn't insane. He was an asshole. Fortunately, he found a calling that made the most of his talents. :p

Goering was a fat cowardly inept drug addict.

I, on the other hand, am fit silly and reckless. :)
