so the toilet in my main bathroom had been broke since Saturday, and last night (Thursday) we finally got it fixed (well, we just got a new one) but, anyway, I was complaining about only having use of the small bathroom to a friend, who says "Two bathrooms is a luxury, some people are homeless" so I was thinking about how what is a luxury to me, might be an everyday thing to someone else, and how an everyday thing to me (like a toilet) might be a luxury to someone else.......it's weird how things like that are relative to your situation......

anyway, what are 3 everyday items in your house that others might see as a luxury?

and what are 3 items that you consider a luxury, that you wouldn't want to be without?

Light switch that works.
Water tap that works.
Gas tap that works.

Never underestimate the luxury that the utility sector provides. It is the foundation of our standard of living.

very true, it's easy for me to get used to the stuff I have now, and forget what it was like when I was a kid living without water, gas, and electricity. (even if it was only for about 8 months, it was the suckiest 8 months ever) My husband has spoiled me rotten, I know everyday that I will have a hot shower, clean water to brush my teeth, and a curling iron that not only gets hot, but won't short out because it's new. ;)

These are the three luxury items that I enjoy, but definately could live without.

1. Xbox
2. iPod
3. All of my DVDs (some 600, except for Firefly and my BSG series, need those ;) )

The following would be considered luxury items, but are so integrated into managing the life of my family I consider them necessities.

1. My Laptop (which plans our budget, organizes our bills ect)
2. Two car garage (for the sheer amount of storage space in there)
3. Microwave

I only recently bought a townhouse that has two bathrooms. It's nice not to have to wait, but I don't like having to clean two. I could easily return to having just one bathroom. The only reason I bought a place with 2 is that many people do believe you need more than one, so resale opportunities would be better if there were two.

My books are my luxuries. I don't need them, but don't even try to take them away from me. Having a room to myself is also a luxury. I was 24 before I had a room of my own - and spouse or no spouse, I don't want to give that up.

I enjoy having clean, drinkable, running water from the tap. Back on the farm when I was a kid, we had to haul our drinking water from a neighbour's well (we tried to drill for water several times, but the only result was a dry hole). Our running water was from a scoop-out that the cows drank out of. In the winter time, the water came out of the taps very dark brown and very smelly (we would put bleach in the water before washing dishes or ourselves).

Having a dishwasher and a clothes washer and dryer is pretty cool too.

Reading this it sounds like the farm was terrible, but it wasn't. I miss not having a garden and a horse, and fresh eggs and butter. I sometimes even miss milking the cow.

anyway, what are 3 everyday items in your house that others might see as a luxury?

Computer+internet (I swear I have no idea what I'd do with my time otherwise)
CD collection+5CD stereo system (silence makes me nervous)
Microwave (Makes food so much easier)

and what are 3 items that you consider a luxury, that you wouldn't want to be without?

MP3 player (again with the silence)
Sky+, HDD TV recorder
Mobile phone
