Bobs Own Pipe

Paul Martin bailed as Liberal leader the night he lost the election. With so many star Liberals to choose from, the impending leadership campaign promised much interest. But in a bizarre twist, star Libs are avoiding the Hell out of it - first Frank McKenna gave a big thumbs-down, then Brian Tobin, followed by John Manley, and today, even Allan Rock - certainly not on my first-draft picks - said no.
What gives? It's not like after the old Progressive Conservatives were thrashed to within an inch of their lives back in the early 90s. The Libs have over a hundred seats in Parliament - they've hardly been consigned to the political hinterlands. With a solid leader, they could easily form the next Canadian government. But throw some non-entity into the leadership role, and they could very easily find themselves shut out of the PMO for quite some time to come.
Authors of their own misfortunes, the Libs seem to have fallen on hard times, indeed. Anybody have any idea as to why something as small as taking a run as Liberal leader should be seen as such a hot potato of late?
